S2000 with no display
« on: May 18, 2014, 07:04:03 PM »
I had trouble searching for help on this problem with the new site. My s2000 was idle and all the display just disappeared. Could this just be a power distribution to the segment display or something bigger?!?!??

Turn the machine off and check all your plugs to make sure they are snug and check that your door IO card(s) is fully seated. Is other lighting on? Are the reels "tight" with the machine on? You might also check to make sure the power supply behind the reels and your MPU are seated as well. If none of that works, then unplug each fluorescent light ballast and see if that helps

Top 4 yellow lights are solid on the cpu along with the green being solid. No button lights and no display - reels are not tight....

there's a buffer ic on the mpu i don't remember what chip it is but i have seen if go out before. i would pull the mph and do a visual inspection of it for any burnt chips. i think on some boards its near the sockets that look like a simm socket. also there's a socketed cpld that is the main senet chip.

Try removing the BV and see if that helps.

Thanks for all the ideas and advice. I did pull the board and didn't see any visual damage as far as I know. I also tried the BV and nothing changed. When I cycle power, all I get is the 4 yellow lights and 1 green all solid on the cpu - no flashing. No reel spin up and no display. Jw if it's time to try swapping parts with a working machine?  :Scratch-Head:

I would def swap the display with another machine. Could just be your display went belly-up and it's a simple fix.

Ok just got home from work and took a closer look  :nerd:

There appears to be burn traces and corrosion where the green battery used to be. I probably need a new board.  :banghead:

Anybody think otherwise?  Let me know.

P.S. I did swap boards from a good machine and the good board booted up the problem machine.

Consensus lately has been that it's easier to replace than repair with that corrosion issue. If a different board solves the problem then I would suggest ordering a new one. If the new one comes with the green battery in place you should probably remove it or ask for it to be removed before you buy it

I don't know if you need an extra Board, but,
It's always a good idea too have a couple of extra Boards on hand.

It's not what you can afford to Buy?
It's what you can afford to keep!

please correct me if i give the wrong answer.
I believe if you have a 1270 enhanced Legacy Board the Green battery, a good green battery,  has to stay on the board?

This is a 50X board. I already know about the 1270 needing the green battery because I have one of those also!

I don't have a spare so I'll need to find a board. Anyone have extras that they could part with one or should I go to the classifieds?

For future reference to this particular thread: I did replace the board and everything is fine.  I didn't even have to do a clear/key procedure.  Thanks for all the help and to Roz, I found someone here on the east side of the nation for the part.
