Just to be sure I understand you, we are speaking of the small 3.6 volt Varta Battery which is soldered on at three points.  Two points on one end and a single point on the opposite end, right?

Correct - the green one with 3 contacts

Do you have a small pick? I pull the battery towards the side with one leg .. then stick a small pick in between the battery and the tab on the other side (2 contacts). Then snap the spot weld at the battery. Bend tabs back and forth until it breaks free.

Tried to remove Varta Battery.  The 3 pins are welded to the mother board at the very extreme lowest point of the pins.  As such there is no give while trying to move the battery one way or the other.  There is no visible pin left to grab hold of.  It will require a very small, pointed soldering iron to reach into a tight spot to melt the solder holding the battery down.  If I can get one side loose, I can probably break the other side off.  I will need to go shopping for the appropriate iron.  Meantime, the Varta Battery looks like it is in good shape.

I use a razor knife between the battery and the spot weld. Rock back and forth until it pop's loose from the battery. Then I cut it close to the board. If you notice any battery leakage wipe with vinegar/water solution and wipe dry

The U Tube video was impressive, thanks.  However, how does a person know whether he has U.S. Software or International software?  The video says that the board will not work if the Varta Battery is removed from a board with international software.  Also, I am curious as to why the other item was also removed.  I think the video author called it a u24.

I believe U24 is part of the circuit that will report an error if it detects that the battery has been removed. So you remove it along with the battery, the machine works fine without them. But I don't know about the international software aspect.

You have an S2000 machine so it won't have international software. International software will be video stuff.

Gary,
Please post a picture of your MPU we still don't know if it's  a 500 series or a 1270 type board.
Correct me if I'm wrong  there is no video monitor in the top half of your machine. If you don't then it is what is called a S2000 vision ready. For the others here it is just a plain S2000. If there is a video monitor in the top half then it is considered a vision machine.

That is a 500 series board and you can remove the blue battery by rocking it back and forth towards the coil and eventually it will snap off. It should be removed because when that battery leaks alkali (and it will) your MPU will be ruined. It will have no effect on game play at home. It was there for security purpose in a Casino environment.

Your machine is what we consider a regular S2000.
It is not a vision machine.

Ok Rich, thanks.  I thought it was a Vision because it says "Vision Series" on the side.  Good to have accurate information from you.  I have yet to remove the Varta Battery but will tackle that task soon.  Thanks again.
