Cleopatra 9 line 5 reel backlight and alignment help
« on: July 12, 2018, 06:59:18 AM »
Hello all.. thanks for all the help getting my other machines going.. I have some questions with this new s2000 Cleopatra I just bought.  A few of the bulbs are out in the back lit reels and all the others seem to be quite dim... Do I just need new bulbs?  I've seen the wedge #359 seem to be what I should replace them with but can't find anywhere to purchase them.
Also the alignment for the reel symbols seems to be off some.  When it hits a payline most but not all symbols seem to hit below the payline to various degrees.. some slight .. others maybe close to 1/4 inch... And yet the backlight for the symbol lines up with the payline...  It's strange because it will vary even on the same reel... Might seem like the closer the symbol is to the end of the reel strip the worse it's off.. the strips look to be in place correct and not moved and are in the notches... Any ideas?
Thank you
Al

Some of those reels had 2 notches close to each other. Make sure they are on the right one. As far as the 359 bulbs, contact one of the vendors on the home page like

I had a set of aftermarket Cleo strips that did that.  The ones closest to the beginning of the strips would line up perfectly and as you got toward the end, they would be off by about 1/4".  I eventually found a set of OEM's and those line up perfectly.  As far as the bulbs, they are 359X (Xenon type, but I believe all 359's are xenon) the non-xenon 12 volt bulbs are really dim and don't backlight the reels correctly.  When not operating, they will glow dim and get bright when highlighting a payline win.  There's a test you can run in the diagnostic menu to test all your bulbs.  When I first got my S2000, I had all kinds of issues with blown bulbs, so I replaced them all and haven't had any problems since.

Thanks for the replies !  I'll double check the notches on the reels... I think I'll start searching for some new strips as well... Especially in case I ruin the ones I have by messing with them.. any suggestions on where to purchase accurate ones?
Thank you

Seems like sunkist graphics had some good ones. New OEM strips would be in the same box as hens teeth

Cowboy did you have the same problem with the symbols lining up... The fact that some are off drives me crazy!  And the fact that the back light is on the payline but some symbols aren't, makes it even more noticable.  It'll probably be even worse if I change the bulbs and it's brighter.  I love the game but with my OCD I may have to think about selling it..

Sometimes a few NLG members gets a group order together for Sunkist Graphics to make them some new strips. That way the cost is not as high as ordering alone. If interested in doing this you can ask around about it, see if anyone else is interested too.

Can you post a photo showing the strip alignment problem? That would help everyone to see what you are seeing.

just some ideas,,,,

If you believe the strips are mounted on the reels properly then the alignment problem could be the strips themselves. What if you removed your strips and laid them next to each other, to see if some symbols are printed on the strips out of alignment compared to others, or maybe some strips are cut so that the first symbol is a little farther or closer to the top edge of the strip, thus throwing off the alignment? Can you tell by looking at the markings on the end of the strips if they are original IGT brand strips, or aftermarket ones?

Also, do the reels or the stepper motor mount have any kind of adjustment where they mount to the reel base? Maybe a screw that can be loosened so that the reel can be moved one way or the other, causing a change in how the symbol lines up with the payline? Doubt this would help if some symbols on the strip align ok and others on the same strip do not.

I fine adjust the stops by adjusting the opto-interrupter on the reel assemblies. Loosen the screw and move it in the direction you want to change the stop location. There is not a lot of movement but it works to get them perfect. Of course be sure the notches on the strips are lined up correctly first. I do find it 'annoying' if they don't line up right. lol...

You guys are all great!   You've given me so much to check out.. I'm starting to think after seeing those pics that even the symbols I thought were lining up are low, just some worse than others.. maybe their on the wrong notch?  I don't see other notches but have been afraid to take the reel strips off....yikes... Would I have to take the strips off to find the other notches?  I also don't see any markings on the strips at all to identify them?  Does that mean they are after market?
I'll post some pics in a few
Thanks for the help
Oh by the way Mike from Sunkist graffics referred me to this site... Raving about you guys.... He didn't realize I was already talking to you all... Lol

Wow- I can see how that would bother someone, even a person that didn't have OCD.   :garfield:

You might want to make sure the strips really are mounted on the reels correctly. Consider it a learning experience. Take your time, post photos and ask questions if you need to. Remember, the folks working in the casinos that do this are not all rocket scientists and brain surgeons, so you can do it if they can.

If the strips are original IGT strips there should be markings on one end of each strip giving the IGT name and part number for the strip. When installed on the reel that end is usually covered by the strip overlap so can't be seen.

so there should definately be other notches on the reel?  do they get covered by the strip? is that why i dont see them?  they must be pretty close to the notches theses strips are on if Im guessing the strios need to move bout a quarter inch.  So its not just me but pretty much all the symbols look off to you as well?

Thanks

I'm thinking your machine probably has a test in the Test/Setup menus. It will let you step thru each possible position of the strips. Maybe someone here knows if that's correct. If it does that would let you see which reels are out of alignment. Keep in mind you may never get it perfect, but yours does look like it needs something done. But if your strips are aftermarket then they be the problem, the printing of the symbols at the correct place on the strips may not be done as precisely as needed. That's why it's good to know if they are original IGT strips or not. If they are IGT then you consider that the strip is not properly installed on the reel. If the strips are aftermarket then you consider that the problem is with the strips themselves.

According to what was said earlier some reels have 2 strip-starting notches. If so, you may not be able to see them until the strip is removed from the reel.

Something I noticed, not sure if it is a problem, I haven't played a 5 reel multiline machine in a while. But looking at your photos it seems there is sometimes too much white space between some symbols on a strip. I've marked a couple of places below where it looks like the symbols have too much white space between them. I think there should always be 4 complete symbols visible on each reel at the end of the spin. Yet sometimes because of a wider white space there are less than 4 full symbols visible. Compare the places I've marked below where consecutive symbols are spaced further apart than usual and look at how close other symbols are to each other. The white space between symbols is usually not very wide so that 4 full symbols are completely visible.
