IGT S+ 41 Reel error

Hello guys!
Got Reel error 41 code and can`t solve it.
There was the similar problem a year ago and i fix it with forum help http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=20605.msg108868#msg108868

But now "turning JPK while door is opened" method doesnt work. Reels jump a bit and stop with 41 code.
Please help to fix it

Try swapping reel 1 with another reel so see if the problem follows the reel or stays with reel 1.

swapped reel 1 with reel 2 and got 42 code. does it mean first one is out of order?
how to test it? it is spinning free when power is off. and spinnind hard when power is on.

No, that means the problem is with the reel assembly itself which is better than having a MPU board problem.  41 indicates a problem with reel #1, when you put it in reel #2's slot you got a 42 error, so the problem followed the reel.  You could try cleaning the optics, but most likely you'll just need to replace the bad reel assembly.

I have two slot machines so I placed reel from another machine to #1slot and it works. so it is obviously a issue of reel.
the reel problem is the same as MPU problem for me becouse it is impossible to find any IGT parts here.

Is it possible to fix reel or replace only?

Oh I didn't realize you weren't in the US.  Yeah, that make finding parts more difficult for sure.  There's only two things to go bad on the reels, either the stepper motor, or the optics.  My bet would be the optics, I've never had a stepper motor go bad.  Try removing the optics and cleaning them with a q-tip with a mild soap.  Maybe you'll get lucky and they are just dirty.  If not maybe you can find a replacement somewhere closer to home.  HOA6241 is the part number.

here are some things to check,  make sure all the pins in the connector are locked in place, on occasion they get pushed out of position. also you can check the optic operation, get into the test mode, go to the input tests, scroll down to the 40 test,  move the reel you should see the 1 change to a zero . also check the black flags that go through the optics, if one of those is broken, it cannot count the spaces so it will tilt.

where these flags are? do you have a pictures?Also is there instruction how to go through this operation in test menu?

Open the door, reach under the reel tray and pull down on the Molex connector.

Grab the front the reel's black plastic and pull towards you and it will slide out.

Look and inspect the reel....the "flags" are the plastic between cutouts in the reel that go around and thru a set of black plastic optics.

Yeah everything's black plastic....haha

When you inspect these flags, pull the connector of another reel and compare the problem reel flags with a known good reel.
See if there are any differences.


I am not going to write down how to go through a test with you right now.
You may have to learn how to switch between "pages" of info using a combo of deck buttons and reset key.
If you can tell us what SP chip you have, I may be able to explain easier.

flags are ok but HOA6241 optics has a little sigh of overheating so probably it is a problem

offtop: give me an English lesson. about word optic. I always thought optic is something connected with light transmitting. But door optics or reel optics dont have any lens or optic cable. So there is another meanig for optic?

Both are related to light but in slightly different ways.  The "flags" pass between the two legs of the photo-electric (HOA6241) sensor.  One leg has a infrared transmitter and the other leg houses the receiver.  The "flag interrupts the light beam and that can be counted by the MPU.  The door optic sensors are also infrared only the transmitter is a small round cell like device and there is a corresponding receiver mounted to the door.  When the door is closed these two should align and complete the light path.

You can often use your cell phone camera to see the infrared light coming from the transmitter cell just as you can with a TV remote.

are there any issues with replacing strip? how to move it properly to avoid damages and put it to right position on new reel?

Simply remove the round reel basket with the tape already on it and put it on the replacement motor assembly.
Removing the round metal spring clip holding the round reel basket to the defective reel assembly takes a little care as the clip will try to escape and fly across the the room.

Should you remove your strip and want to make it's installed back on correctly,
you'll notice there's a small notch on each side near the numbers end of the strip.

Those notches correspond to small nibs on the edge of the reel basket rims.
Attach strip to these points 1st and gently squeeze edges of strips to slide inside rim basket edge openings until you reach the end of the strip overlapping the numbered end - where you started.
