New to the Forum - IGT S+ Issues and a need
« on: September 22, 2020, 11:53:26 AM »
Hey guys,
New to this forum but not real new to machines that take your money...haha.. Just picked up a IGT Triple Diamond machine today. Complaint from the person I bought it from was it won't accept coins...well I get it in my lilttle shop, power it up...12 on the display...open and close the door, doesn't clear the 12, notice the candle does whatever it wants to whether the door is open or closed, boot up sequence doesn't spin the reels, insert coin never lights....anyway...checked all connectors and optics...MPU must be toast, ordered one...but...while I wait...noticed the dbv is a JCM DBV 45 - wouldn't mind an upgrade... don't think I can post in the WTB section yet - is it legal in this forum to ask who may have a used 200 they would want to part with? Or a supplier that has a decent price on them?

Thanks in advance.

12 on the display is a dead battery. Change the battery.

3.6v lithium battery.

If you go to our home page there are a number of vendors there that can sell batteries, bill validators etc.
I would recommend that when you buy the battery you get a clear chip and set chip.

I will recommend you check out Ricks FAQs - on our home page, bottom right.
Post a battery change you will get a 61 error. This is the same as what happens after a game change. Ricks FAQ covers off how to complete the game change sequence and clear the 61.
A 61 turns into a 61-1 by pressing and holding the white test button. Then closing the door and turning the reset key clears this and the game is ready to play.
Unfortunately sometimes you get into a 61, 61-1 loop. Where the 61-1 turns back into a 61. The only way out of this is to run the clear chip. This is a common occurrence after a battery change.

When you do a game change or a clear your DBV goes off line and you need to use a SET chip to enable it. Basically the SET chip sets the denomination of the machine ie a .25c denomination tells the bill validator that it gives 4 credits for a dollar.

To your question about the DBV 45 ... are you sure that is not a DBV145 ? The 145 has 1way acceptance and a DBV 200 or WBA 12/13 have 4 way acceptance.
If you change your 145 for 200 the power supplies look identical but the 200 has fins (air holes) as it has a higher amperage and if you don't change it then you run into flakey problems with the 200.
The DBV 200 can handle "most" of the new money except the new colored $100 - at first the $5 (new) wasn't supported either but the roms did find their way into the wild but if your asking a seller about bill heads you will want to specify that you want a head that can accept the new $5. There are newer heads that will accept the new 100's and will work in the S+ but regardless the new heads running the S+ protocol will NOT accept the new 100s.

As the others said, the 12 on your display indicates that the battery is low and in all likelihood your MPU board is fine.

I would highly suggest reading the FAQs in this section to learn more about your machine, including what the error codes mean and how to resolve them.

Yep...changed the battery right away, got stuck in the 61 loop with extras, went the clear chip route... but the machine does a lot of weird stuff, like the coins played will flash a 0 intermittently, or the candle will light and flash differently every boot, or not at all on some boots, or not change status at all no matter what ya do... - every time it attempts to boot it is something different like a gate, latch, or buffer in the MPU is stuck. Ran into it before and had some swap MPU boards many years ago...but I sold all my IGT and Bally stuff like ~15 yrs ago...so this is a refresher for me...  thought I would never get back into these machines, but here I am... and found this forum which is a really good forum from what I can see...and very responsive too.

Yes, the DBV is a 45.... kinda rare in these machines from what I know but I ended up with one, as my luck goes. Heard you could replace them with a 200 fairly easily... so thought I would check around.

Thanks again for all the input and how fast you guys respond.

OK... figured it out...sort of.. swapped a test MPU in and same problem, so ended up unplugging everything, removing it all, and cleaning all connectors and checking all pins and found heavy oxidation / corrosion at the motherboard...actually looks like water had dripped into the machine at the back, however that is unlikely, or could have been a battery that leaked awhile back... anyway cleaned that all up and put it all back together and it runs....

So now I have a question - SP731, DBV takes the bill and changes it right away, can't put more than 2 credits on the machine at a time - looked through the settings and don't see anything that is not already setup correctly in a quick look...  Am I missing something or is that the way it is with this one? Or do I have to go back to the set chip and change it there?

.... There were a number of Katrina machines that were sold to the highest bidder by the truck load.
.... People have been known to pour their drinks into the slot to loosen them up...
............  or because they are P***ed off they dump drinks into the machine.

Most SP chips, including the one you have, do not allow you to insert more coins than the maximum bet.

There are some special SP chips that allow additional inserted coins to go to the credit meter instead of being rejected to the tray, but those are not typical.

Ok...followed that procedure - now converts bills to credits - many thanks! New problem has surfaced... The arm solenoid only releases for coin inserts - when you use bills to gain credits - the lockout solenoid is engaged and you have to hit the buttons to spin the reels.... I can hear the arm lockout solenoid trip every time a reel stops. I was able to time the solenoid lockout to moving the arm and sure enough if I time it right it is the arm lockout solenoid - I can move the arm as each reel stops... now this to me is a weird issue...

It should release when you bet one credit.

It does, but I thought as long as the coins played displayed what your wager is, you could pull the handle and go? Maybe not though.

I was able to time the solenoid lockout to moving the arm and sure enough if I time it right it is the arm lockout solenoid - I can move the arm as each reel stops... now this to me is a weird issue...

This is actually normal behavior. If reel spin sounds are on (ie. the speaker plays "music" while the reels are spinning), the machine uses the handle release solenoid to add a mechanical sound corresponding with each of the reels stopping.

If you turn the reel spin sounds off (ie. no "music" when spinning), then the speaker is used to create a noise for each reel stopping and the machine does not fire off the handle release solenoid each time.
