Can't Change Settings on S+ SP830
« on: September 22, 2020, 01:33:24 PM »
Hey everyone,

I just switched out the old SP446 in the double diamond I'm working on for an SP830, and while I have the PSR, I can't seem to enable tournament mode on this slot.
(Also I just noticed the "game change" tutorial on the front page. I was supposed to replace the game prom (the SP446) with the new SP830, right?)

This is what I've been trying.

1. Use the self test button until "5 1" appears on the winners paid display
2. Scroll through the menu until 20-0 appears.
3. Now on the PSR is says I can use the change button to set it to 20-1, but when I press change, 1100 appears in winners paid, and the other displays are all zeroes.

I have no idea what's wrong with my slot. I was under the impression that settings I can change should blink, but none of them are doing that. I'm suspecting it has something to do with the ST0002 that's also installed in my slot, but I honestly have no idea.

Thanks

I'm on my phone and can't access the PSR at the moment, but yes, you were correct to put the SP830 in the GAME socket where your old SP chip was.

Do you by chance have credits on the machine right now? You cannot adjust many settings nor can you put the machine in tournament mode if there are credits on the meter. You must play off or cash out any credits in order to adjust those settings.

There's where the other issue is. The machine currently throws a 21 error at me. There's no coin or bill mechanism at all (or a hopper), so I'm assuming setting the machine into tournament mode would hopefully bypass that issue.

I've attached a few pictures of the inside of my machine. As you can see, its barren. So I have no idea if there are any credits on the machine. I would assume not, since this machine was made for tournament play, but to be honest I have no idea

That would have been useful information to have included in your first post. :)

You'll need to either have working coin-in optics or somehow simulate them (I'm not sure if that's a thing on S+ machines?) in order to get past the error 21, and you can't do anything on the machine if there's an error code displayed until you resolve the error.

S+ machines were never designed to be coinless and as such never had any built-in options to support such operation.

Ah okay, some people told me that a simple chip swap would be enough to get pas the 21 error, looks like I have to go hunting for some coin in optics. Thanks for your help

In the case of no coin handling on a S+ you still need to insert a coin bypass plug into the harness.
It is a 15 pin female housing with male pins that plugs into that 15 pin male plug I see in your picture that has nothing plugged into it.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

I went searching and I found a coin bypass plug for an S200, as well as a coin optics for an S+. Would I need to get any additional parts, or would getting the coin optics board be my best bet? I'm hoping it will just be a easy as plugging in the coin optics, but it seems like everything I do just leads to more problems

I'm still a novice in the slot machine world so I'm learning as I go.

Scratch that: It says neither of the parts are orderable

This is what's needed, right?

I am thinking that if you open the door - press the white test button multiple times - until it appears to have gone through its cycle, and close the door it should clear the 21.
I am not saying that it won't come back but that it should clear the 21 and then your credit meter should display the number of credits on it.
Do you have a hopper so that you can do a cash out ? (assuming there are credits).
If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

Hey,
I cycled through the test button menus, but the 21 wasn't cleared.
I also don't have a hopper or coin/bill mechanism of any kind. The machine seems to be gutted, so I fear I may be in over my head here.
If you look up a few posts you can see pictures of what I'm working with.
Thanks

don't buy the S2000 plug...wires aren't jumped the same.
Get the proper one for your S+ model.

Ya, the S2000 / Game King is 15 pin, the S+ / PE+ is 12 pin.

Yeah that was my gut feeling. I can’t find any S+ plugs so I may just install a coin optics assembly I found on eBay.
Thanks for your help

I have those parts for considerably less if you haven't committed to buying them on feeBay. There's also a list of supporting vendors on the home page. PM me if interested.

You don't need any parts to make the S+ machine coinless operation,  we went through this with Slot Doc back in 2009,  all you have to do is jumper 2-4-6-to 10, I believe.  check out the post from the old site.

I know it works because I just had a guy in Texas do it to his slant top machine, and it worked perfect,  he set the hopper limit to zero, when a cash out occurred, it goes to an attendant hand pay, turn the jackpot reset key and you are back in business.

Hope this helps.

Jim
