IGT S+ intermittently quits
« on: October 16, 2020, 01:56:01 PM »
Greetings all!

I have an issue with my S+ Red White and Blue:  The game will blank out in the middle of playing and then resume.  This tends to happen fairly quickly after turning it on.  I powered it down once and the credits were gone, but I pressed PLAY ONE CREDIT and it gave me a credit (even though nothing was showing in the credits window) but immediately went to a 3100 error.  I was not able to reset it to get rid of the error, but it miraculously was working again after turning it on and off a few times.

I've tried the usual suspects - the power connector on my IGT S+ is minty fresh.  The fuses are all good.  I've cleaned and reset the connectors.  And I put in new door optos as well. Time for a new MPU board?  Mine is listed as a 75505704 Rev B.  It is a 1996 vintage Red, White and Blue 5 line.

Here is a video of it in action...

Sounds like a power issue whenever weird things like that happen, try replacing the power.  After thaat I would try a new MPU board/tray next, always good to have a spare, specially with these aging machines while you can still get parts.

I would suspect the board.
The most logical is the power connection but you stated you know it is good.
I usually have some splus boards but not any more.

I would look for the simple things. Perhaps your power cord is faulty or loose.
Coins under the built in motherboard.
Shorts - perhaps remove the hopper, toppers, progressives and any other extra bits that plug into the platform.
If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

Thank you for the reply, but all of the usual suspects are ruled out - no coins floating around the power supply, the power cord is newer and in good shape, and I got a new power cable from the power supply to the motherboard.

The hopper is out - no progressive or toppers.

I'll put in a new board and add a new(er) motherboard as well to hopefully keep it going for a while.  That's about all I haven't tried to do.

Check if the reel basket of the 1st left-most reel is rubbing against the top of the reel display too.
At 00:49, for a brief sec, error code [41] popped up in your video. :sherlock:
What is more bizarre, is that the reels did not go into the error slow reel spin.
I'd still check it anyways...the reel basket and strips should be at least 3/8" away from the top of reel glass display unit.

The main suspect still lies with either the power supply or the MPU & motherboard - as the guys mentioned previously.

After seeing that, I believe it is power or the mpu.  Notice the flashing candle after the failure.  The flashing candle is an inidicator that power was lost and the mpu rebooted.  So either the MPU is rebooting because the power supply is flaky or it is rebooting because the MPU is flaky.
