873 changing the odds
« on: December 19, 2020, 02:31:38 AM »
hi boys, I am Dutch and know the Dutch are known to be a bit mean on money, but restoring this machine from Holland shocked me! 'going Dutch' on a 873 (see picture)

Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all my friends on NLG

nice!

I think they referred to those as "plugs" on the early floor model color wheel machines.  Some of those machines had spring mounted plugs the operator could snap into position to change the game percentage by preventing the wheel from stopping at a plugged position.

eventually they moved the stop disk in front of the color wheel to make it visible to the players so they could see there were no plugs ... except the ones on the hidden stop disc in the back of the game.

at least one machine went to the ultimate step ... the coin head allowed you to bet separately on more than one color, and if you bet on the high pay color the game mechanically activated plug(s) to prevent the wheel from stopping on some/all of the positions of the high pay color :-)

This is why gaming control boards are important to the industry.  If the gambler doesn't trust the casinos, they aren't going to play.  Of course, casinos don't need to cheat, they just need to get lots of play and let probability work for them.
