  • I have too many hobbies......
Hello,

My first post and I'm a slot newbie so forgive the lengthy post. I read someplace the more I tell you the better you can help.

Like the subject line says I own an IGT s2000 and I would like to change up a few things.

A little history....... Before I got this machine, the owner had originally come to me to help him replace the batteries on the main board, which I successfully did for him with no issues. There was no damage to the MB, no corrosion, etc. He just told me the machine told him the battery was bad and he wasn't capable of doing the solder work that it needed. He had already sourced the parts (both batteries) and it was an easy job to do. I never had or saw the machine when I completed this repair for him. He just brought me the MB and the batteries, I did the work and the job was out the door.

I didn't hear from him about this repair for at least 3-4 months, so I assumed all was well. However as you probably all know and I eventually found out, once the batteries are pulled and replaced, when it boots up there are many errors.  The owner at time couldn't get past the RAM error, but he never said anything. I guess he finally got tired of trying to fix it on his own and offered to sell it to me for next to nothing. He told me that he must have pulled the RAM, hence the RAM Error and now he can't find it and just wants to get rid of it.  He told me that you couldn't buy a new MB for it, etc. etc. Not being a slothead or pinhead I had no reason to doubt him or check it out for myself and took his word for it. I bought it for $200 figuring I could at least part it out and make a few bucks. I played around with it for about a week assuming that he lost the RAM and then I just shoved in a corner. The empty RAM sockets on the MB lead me to believe that this was a feasible problem and I never thought twice about it.

It sat for about 4 years in my shop because I didn't have time to mess with it. I was thinking the whole time I just needed to find the RAM and go from there (LOL) . Fast forward to now and the pandemic, I needed a project so I pulled this out. Once I figured out how to clear the RAM error, door open errors, battery errors (it was low again) and multiple other errors, it's been slowly progressing ever since.

Once I had all the errors cleared and door switches fixed/bypassed I discovered this machine had a 502 Rev A. MB in it that wasn't working consistently. I was able to source a 504 board, swap over the chips and get the machine up and running perfectly. The Bill acceptor, quarters, programming, etc. are all good and it's pretty fun to play.

First.......I'd like to add tito. Besides the tito unit itself, I obviously need a printer and probably a few other things like cables,  etc. but I'm not sure exactly what I need to get it done. (parts source?)

My machine is IGT s2000, 3 reel, Super Times Pay machine. I think the printer will need to be in the top box, which means I also need a new  bezel along with the cables to attach it. What printer do I buy? Can a get a better bezel than the cheap @$$ piece of lame wood laminate than I have now? Like stainless or glass or something?

Second, I'd like to modify the current one or change out the coin comparator so that I can accept quarters AND similar sized tokens.  Not quarters OR tokens (I know how to and have changed it back and forth multiple times) I want it to accept both. The comparator is a CMI#CC-16E, INH 13vdc. Can this be done?

I'll try to attach some pics for any additional details I might have left out.

Point me in the correct direction or let me know it's not possible.
Thanks in advance.

Printer goes on the bottom left side of the top box, you have what is called a long reel S2000.  You will need a printer with harness and the corresponding bracket to go with it.  Also the player tracking bracking that has the opening for the printer on it.  You will also need a TITO board, if you contact Bettorslots, I'm sure he can set you up with all the parts you need.

As far as taking tokens AND Quarters, that is not going to happen with your comparitor (other than switching the sample coin to fit your need).  The comparitor only has a single sample and the coin-in must match that coin.  There is a X10 acceptor that is supposed to recognize up to 6 coins, but I've never been able to get those going, maybe someone else has been able to get them going, but I haven't even been able to get it to accept 1 coin type, so I gave up.

That's kind of a Frankenstein looking machine with either the wrong Top Box or Reel Shelf and Glass.

The Top Box has an electrical distro box in the way of where the printer will mount. I've seen some machines like this where the plug bracket was disconnected and just left hanging behind the reels, but it doesn't look too good.

Normally with this style top box, the printer would be to the right of the reels. But you have a long glass for the multi-line options.

It can still work though. Just strange that it's set up that way. Maybe it was an early S2000 and never had a printer installed.

Just my observations.

How much difference in size are the tokens VS US quarters?

Could you post a pic of them stacked with larger coin on the bottom?

It is a regular S2000 16" box.  The ports and everything seem to be in the right place.  The only thing missing is the netplex distribution board, but the 4 mounts that hold it are there, so whoever put the machine together, removed it, since there was no need for it with no printer or any other netplex device inside the top box.

Here you go.
It's US quarter at .955 vs a token at .985 - But obviously dissimilar metals

Okay...the token is larger.

Will it fit thru the slot on the deck and fall all the way thru or is it too big?

I can get you to accept both coins thru a coin comparitor and register credits to the machine.

But the main problem I see with using two DIFFERENT sized coins is that they will probably jam up the hopper.

Throw a bunch of different coins into the hopper and see if they come out correctly....lol

Nooooo.....don't do that...It's not going to work. sorry

Just use one type of coin that fits your slot and hopper.

IDK - The tag on the side says Mfg Date of 11/2000.
I think it had to have something in the top box, the cheap @$$ wood laminate bezel seems like a after thought and wouldn't hold up too long in a casino.

Yes the tokens fit through just fine. They also work in the hopper just fine.

I have run 200 mixed quarters and tokens through the hopper on payouts with NO issues.

If I have a token in the comparator, they credit and drop into the hopper just fine, Quarters no credit fall through to the tray.

They hopper doesn't give a crap what's in it, it pays out fine either way.

okay...here's how to make your CC take BOTH coins....>>>

1).Remove the CC from the 4 clips (just pull towards you, it should pop off the clips).
2).Remove the 2 small screws holding the rake solenoid and leave the green wires connected. (Just move entire rake unit to the side of the CC or let it hang.)
3).Re-install the CC back onto the 4 clips.
4).Take a small Philips screwdriver and turn the potentiometer dial fully CCW (counter clock-wise)
5).Put the larger token into the Sample holder on the CC.

Your machine will now take any coin smaller than your token....even Canadian quarters.  :rotfl:
Nickels, dimes, and pennies may not register a credit as they are too small for your hopper knife and dimes like to jam up under the hopper knife.
Plus they're too small to to pass thru the optic eyes on the hopper - not tall enough.  :Professor:

Let us know how this works out for you! :)

If you really want it to accept both quarters and tokens you can shim out the rake on the back of the CC-16,  but that could lead to other problems in the sense that a nickle or penny would probably work as well. those two coins when paying out will destroy a knife.  but if you are sure people playing wouldn't do that then it probably will work,  try it and see.

I have the printer, harness, bracket, and player tracking panel available if you need these.

Is it fair to call those screws? Mine are sort of square pointed diamond shaped holes. Had to use needle nose pliers

Anyway, got that done. Large token in CC, pot turned all the way counter clockwise.

Didn't work.
Larger tokens work fine, quarters drop straight to the hooper and produce an error with no credit given.

For different coins you need an IDX X-10 X-Mark Xeptor. I have one on one of my machines and it works flawlessly. You must set it up correctly, including the correct shims for your coin size, or it can be temperamental.

As for different coin sizes, you might consider searching for a token which has the same exact dimensions as a quarter. I know somebody makes them. I found some on ebay once.

Yeah...strange..mine worked with a Canadian quarter with a US quarter as the Sample coin in the holder....oh well...better get an IDX.
Place a WTB ad for one in the Classifieds section of NLG.
I'm sure someone will have one for ya!

You go into Classifieds and hit the "Start A New Topic" button.

Place the ad for what you want to buy and change the "Message Icon"  to "WTB" next to your "Title".

Thanks, but I think I have to be a contributing member to post in the classifieds? I could be wrong.

Not to derail my own thread, but $10 a month or even $110 a year, seriously? That's a new one.  The math just doesn't work out for me. It's not that I don't mind supporting the site. I do appreciate the lack of ads running up and down the sides of the pages. I'd be more likely to make a one time contribution(not anonymously) so I could post FS or WTB.
