Newbie-Hoping research is correct
« on: August 25, 2014, 08:22:12 AM »
Thanks in advance for setting me straight!
I think I have an understanding on what I need to do to enable my printer but just wanted to make sure before I hunt down and purchase a chip.   Currently in my operators menu under Key Chip Config II, menu [7.2.2] Printer.  The option is set to disabled and is not able to be changed.
So after all my reading though the wealth of knowledge on this site my understanding is this. If I were to get a key chip 31 or 17 if I can’t find the 31, I would be able to make the change without having to do a Clear first.
My intention is to be able to partial pay out of the hoper and the balance printed on a ticket.
Is the key chip 31 the correct one?
Do I need to do a clear first?
Chips installed:
Version chip VS011GX0
Stepper Base SB10028

My next post will then be in the classifieds looking for paper and key chip.

Thanks again

Welcome to NewLifeGames! And yes, you are correct in your research! You will just need a Key chip to enable your printer.

Roz, I thought you just had run netplex config to enable the printer, and then set your limits and enable partial pays.  Or are those on the Keychip menu? don't remember exactly.  :Scratch-Head: :Scratch-Head: :Scratch-Head:

Cant you guys read my mind yet when i leave parts out of my posts?!?  :rotfl: Enabling the printer is easy enough and may be done without a key (in NetPlex Config) but setting the partial pay will require a Key for sure...

7.2.5      Coinless Mode    Disabled

7.1.10.2       Coin to Game and Credit

7.1.7.2      Token pay out partial   Enabled

I don't see a reason to have to clear it, as Acctg isn't messed with, but ???

I just threw the clear in there as I assume nothing.  For all we know it has credits on it.  It was just proper procedure I know most of the time it is not needed.  Again It has been a while since I jumped backed into s-2k etc. After working on many other much newer platforms etc. on the diff. manuf. it can at times, Cloud things a bit.  The info and help here is, I would think correct overall.  There are "cheats" etc. for more advanced users/builders/gamers But  did not want to consider or bring those things up now.  Best to start off text book then-look at other later-?.  Again I have Learned my lesson over old age and experiance--Assume Nothing.  This however should be resolved quite quickly and a easy solution.

I know Barry. I would never recommend buying JUST a Key chip, but who am I. We just clear everything and just start over on S2000s, but some might argue it. We don't have to do a lot of tweaks to machines after they are up. We just Clear and Key once and are done.

Thank you all for responding.  I may have found part of the problem.  Reading rickhunters response got me wondering.  I ran Auto-Configure NETPLEX devices and it came back with printer not responding.  I thought I had previously read NETPLEX devices were automatically detected and figured I would have received an error if there were issues.  Since the arrow light up and paper feed worked I assumed all was well and I needed to set it up in the config
So investigating more I pulled out the printer and removed the 50 pin cable, it has a pretty big kink and a gouge in it.  I think I need to replace this first Anyone have one of these laying around they are looking to get rid of.

xcopy,  From what I read You did not state what type of printer you have.  Ricks input and all others are correct as well.  It is always good to be armed with the proper clear/key chips on the platforms you are working with.  If it is a ribbon cable in printer etc, or whatever it is-still should be no problem, A vendor will help you.

777sizzler, comparing it to  some other pics I beleive it is a gen 1.  There isnt much on the lable and its had to read.
 I think its SIP V6.1.0, PSA 66.001n and a date of 2004
Does that sound like a gen 1?  I can try sending a pic if needed
Good Point on the chips, hopefully I can find it all at one vendor

PSA66 is a gen 1.  The Gen2's have like purplish sort of cover  the front part f the printer and says gen2 all over.

Each SG chip set usually requires a certain key chip but that is not set in stone.

Many chip sets that say key 45 will allow a key 31.
what the real difference in them only IGT knows

Ron good info, Thanks,  I thought I read a post somewhere to use a 31 in place of the 17, I guess maybe I should stick with the 17 since I have a SG000312 installed

The SG000312 is known for a lot of reel tilts...keep that in mind if you get them and then switch to a 363 or higher to get rid of them. If you don't get the tilts....don't worry about it, but if you do ...that is the first thing to change.

I’m still a little confused, Could someone please confirm whether or not NETPLEX will detect the printer even if the machine was originally setup with the printer disabled.  I’m trying to figure out if I just need to re key it or if the printer is bad.  I found a service manual for the printer and according to the LEDs on the printer it seems ok.  But the gouge in the cable still concerns me that it may not be getting proper communication from the machine.  These cables seem hard to come by and the dealer I purchased the machine from is over 2 hours away otherwise I would take it back and have them work on it.
Thanks for all your help

Netplex configuration does not care if a device is enabled or disabled. it will try to detect it.
if you think it is a cable take the cable to them and have them replace it.
