Just repaired an s2000 "5 times pay machine" Tested hopper for payout and it did NOT count out the quarters properly. with about 40 quarters in the hopper i attempted to cash out 10 credits. it threw out most of the quarters before counting down to zero. the countdown was intermittent. is there a sensor that may needs to be cleaned or replaced. otherwise the hopper runs smoothly. just have to open door to add quarters till it ran down to zero.

Possible bad optic. Does the hopper have the correct shelf wheel for 25c?

There is a sensor that counts the coins as they leave the hopper. Sounds like yours is bad, or a wire or hopper board problem. There is a board on the back by the motor.

the hopper immediately drops quarters. it goes drop 9, dropdropdrop 8, dropdropdropdrop 7, dropdrop 6, drop 5, dropdropdropdropdrop 4, etc. etc.
i will check for loose wires but maybe sensor could be cleaned with a little alcohol and Q-tip???. would my hopper from my s+ work??

I think they are different. The sensor may be inductive, metal sensing. Remove it and see if you can tell if you can see openings for LED Detector pair(s). Maybe cleaning will help.

your probably right Tony. the inductive would be more reliable to the casinos. imagine hitting a jackpot of 20 bucks, cashing it in and getting 200 bucks it quarters because the hopper didn't count down right!!! LOL

The hopper sensor are not inductive. They are optics incased in a slightly translucent black shell. Some igt hoppers even have 2 sets of optics in the shell so they can detect if something goes backwards through them.

thanks, going to pull it after i get to check see if quarters are rolling off the knife properly and not sneaking past those optics thus throwing that 3300 code after giving out free quarters.

Just to eliminate some confusion on which model machine you are working on.

You mentioned S2000 and 3300. S2000 is going to display hopper empty message and a S+ will display 3300 for hopper empty.

I would go back and verify what RB asked before going any further since that wasn't answered.

I agree with Ken it's a s+ machine with 3300 error. Clean the hopper optics and I would put in more than 40 quarters. Hoppers don't work that well when that low on coins. S2000 and S+ hoppers are different.

again i apologize. its an s2000 with two errors. first is hopper empty. i tried cashing in 20 credits. and it emptied out before counter went to 20. at 18 i inserted more quarters till it finally went to zero and stopped. second was a hopper malfunction.. hopper overpay error. can i buy a replacement optics for this hopper. cleaned it well and still same problem. thanks Al

Try cleaning the hopper brake or adjusting the spring on the brake.

hopper brake where?? i see the spring loaded screw and will try tightening it. it does seen to drop the quarters extremely fast. like lightning.

I'm pretty sure the problem is the coin out sensor on the hopper. The best I can tell from the OP explanation the hopper runs, spits out coins, but is counting down coins as if the coin out sensor is made all the time.
If you don't put any coins in the hopper and try the hopper test, the hopper should run and time out for no coins counted and give you a hopper empty code.
If it does count some coins out, then the sensor is bad and it thinks it is seeing a coin all the time. This would also generate an 'over pay' error, or possibly more correct - extra coin paid out error.
I think you can get the sensor still. I have been able to modify the sensor from other units to work. I did notice as mentioned above, the sensor may be a dual one with 2 pair of sensors. This could possibly be modified to work if the machine only needs to see one of the pairs. I would need to double check the schematic and play around with one to be sure.
It seems the sensors are getting harder to find and expensive if I remember right from the last I messed with one a couple months ago. I know you can buy hoppers, but be sure to get one for an S2000, the S+ won't work.

Thanks tony. guess i will be looking for a used sensor. played with it all day, filled it with lots of quarters and it still overpays. we have 3 total s2000's between family members and this is the only one with a hopper so would like to get this one to work before i go to installing a tito unit,

Ok now, hear this!! could it be i have a dollar hopper??? I put a few quarters in the hopper and manually turned motor as coins passed the optics slot and it looks like they merely graze the sensor. or maybe 1/2 dollar coins too might work. Wife just brought me out some coins. gonna test it now.

guys it works. wifey pulled out twenty 50 cent pieces and it has not made one mistake yet. i put 4 one dollar bills in and cashed out and i get 16 coins. so how can i convert this to a quarter hopper. Knife change??
