New to S2000
« on: November 19, 2021, 12:41:09 AM »
I've been watching a (almost) local auction site that is doing it's annual machine/arcade/really bizarre stuff auction and noticed a S2000 advertised as a "parts only" machine because it was missing the "ticket reader".  Hmm, ticket printer.. check, dbv.. check, cash can .. check.  Just couldn't resist as that made absolutely no sense to me!  On inspection, I think they were referring to player tracking/card slots that the casino's usually pulls anyhow along with the main lock set.  WTH??, Couldn't pass and picked it up for a song.  Figured it might need a PS or something along that line?

Got it home, up on a stand and, just knew my son couldn't resist the temptation to dive in (honestly I hoped it might take a little longer to sort it out).  Five minutes later and a few "what the heck is that noise??" alerts it's up and running after finding a poorly seated main AC cord!

Now honestly, I have really not followed the S2000 threads up to this point.  It appears that the wrong button cell is installed?  Should I care or does it really need a 2032 (I assume that is right one) ?  A see it has a Varta and just assume I should yank that per standard recommendation but have a question.  I see that there are some comments that the S2000 comes with two different MPUs and it's said that only the 1270 MPU needs to have the U16 removed.  In either case, what are the potential problems if it isn't?

Sorry that I'm a total noob on the S2000.  Is there a similar configuration guideline for setting options on the S2000 like I've seen for the S+ and GK?  Obviously I want to add TITO to this machine and net it with the GK for adding credits but just for our very brief .... (HS!!!  It works and plays??) run it appears that the cash-out goes straight to hand pay.

Fun game. I have the same one. Have you gotten the free spins yet? Yes remove the varta and U16 on the 1270. I forget why but I know you have to. Look here for information on the setting and options. http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=322.0 There are a couple files in that thread listing the options & settings.

Yes, did get several free spin hits today just doing a preliminary check out.  I was surprised as I wasn't aware of that feature.

Obviously I need to do a thorough clean up first as it's really dusty/smoke stained.  I noticed the DBV insert light and duck bill were intermittent or flicker on and off.  Tapped it with a fingernail and immediately brightened up.  I'm thinking it would be prudent to exercise each connector a few times to make sure they have good/clean contacts?

I also noticed that not all reels seemed to activate the led back-light consistently.  [edit]  Oops!  Just did a youtube search.. I guess I just assumed they were led.  I need to look at that closer tomorrow?

Yeah the free spins caught me by surprise too haha. It also stacks if it hits it during the free spins.

I think its not a bad idea about  the connectors. Wouldn't hurt.

Should be reel light output tests you can do.

Well, ..  finally got motivated to get back to looking at this machine after picking up the correct CR2354 button cell and ordering a bunch of bulbs.  I found it odd that there was no menu selection for the reel lamp test (as cited here in other posts) but found that the game/history/win menu selection actually lit all three bulbs on each reel when backing through the previous awards??  There were 11 bulbs out on the backlit reels.  It looks/plays much better with new bulbs!  The service candle bulb was out as well.  Now I only have two credit bet buttons out but those look like a nightmare to replace??

Just for the record...
I confirmed that it does have a 1270 MPU.  It was playing and working fine but appeared the that top side of the Varta was a little corroded?  I twisted off the Varta with a pliers as I did with the GK.  After removal, the pad did definitely have signs of corrosion but it didn't appear to have spread.  Just out of curiosity I put the MPU back in and restarted.  It booted and the VFD halted on a "Main Battery Low" error.  I'd seen this message on my GK before and expected it might be related to the wrong cell as noted in my first post.  I changed out the CR with no change in the error message.  I then clipped out the U16 chip and after two machine restarts it was all clear and playing just as before so it must have been related to the U16 regulator?

Now it's on to enabling the printer and adding a Bettor TITO card.... too bad the Deluxe is NLA. :(
