Bally 873 Bell issue
« on: November 22, 2021, 06:22:11 AM »
I have my first em slot and have gone through the machine contacts, steppers and the mechanicals.  It pays and plays beautifully.  However, at first, the slot would ring the bell on most if not all the payouts.  Then it only rang the bell occasionally.  Now its only ringing on the 5th coin diagonal 7.

What controls when the bell rings?  Apparently I have something out of adjustment or contacts that are still dirty.  I have been doing some research and it seems there is a spot on the 3rd reel wiper that controls the bell but that was on a different model.  Can some one point a newby to the area I need to inspect/clean/adjust?  Also if the bell can be variable to ring on every payout, larger payouts or just 5th coin 7.

Thank you!

Here you can find your machine and maybe you understand what the problem can be :)

Thanks SPN.  It is working correctly.  However, just for knowledge and for some reason I like to hear the bell ring, lol, can this be made to ring on every payout?  If so, what's involved.

when the bell rings is a common difference between versions of a slot model.

that is the full model number on the metal plate below the handle - if there is one?  The model number is the top one.

if you don't have the plate, what is the M-645-xxx number on the payout counter board on the hopper, numbers/codes stamped into the slotted reel index discs, or writing on hopper or reel mech?

the most common ways to make the bell ring is hooking up rivets on a reel wiper board or if it rang on all pays, a switch on the payout relay was used so the bell rang for the duration of a payout,

Thank you for the explanation.  I kind of like it ringing for the duration of the payout.  It adds to the excitement.  Maybe if it were a dollar machine, the coins themselves would make enough noise hitting the tray lol.

This is a 873-6z.

You may get tired of that constant ringing after a while.

the 6Z was made after my info stopped, so I don't know what kind of 873 it is.  got a pic of the entire front of game?

the payout relay is on the hopper.  There should be a switch on it with a yellow wire on the middle/long/moving blade that connects to a green/white wire blade when the relay is powered.

clean/adjust that switch.

on many 873's, the green/white wire goes through plug connections to a terminal strip in the top compartment where a red wire from the bell was tied to it.

other games had the green/white wire going to switches on bar/jackpot/whatever relays and from those switches to the red bell wire.

if your game initially rang the bell for the minimum win, it's probably just the payout relay switch or a plug connection.

It’s possible to wire in the higher pays for bell ringing. Wouldn’t do the cherries though.
Constant bell ringing gets annoying.
