IGT S2000 Main Battery Low Error - Already replaced
« on: November 24, 2015, 10:18:33 PM »
Hello all... I have an IGT S2000 with the "Call attendant, Closure M, Main Battery Low" error.

I have replaced the 3v coin cell battery and went thru the whole process of resetting with the reset key but I keep getting the same error "Main Battery Low"

I have measured the continuity on the battery and am getting 3.2vdc..... It's a brand new battery.

I don't know what else to do? Please help :(

Is this an enhanced type MPU board or a 50x series board?

Welcome to  :nlg-logo: .  I'm assuming you probably have a 502 or 504 MPU board? The 502/4 refer to the last three digits of a part number that should be printed on the MPU board itself.   The main battery low error is caused by the 3V coin cell battery you already replaced.  The green Varta Nicad battery isn't needed for home use and can be removed if you have a 502/4 board.  It often leaks corroding traces on the board that normally leads to door open m error messages.  The bad news is your MPU board is probably bad, the good news is you may be able to repair it fairly easily if you can use a multimeter and replace surface mount components.

If you can and have a 502/4 series board check R18, R17, R23.  They should measure 1K, 100K, and 1M respectively.  Often one of them will have drifted way out tolerance on the high side and that will cause the MPU to see battery as being low, but it really isn't.  I've attached a page from the schematics that shows the resistors to check.

Thank you for this schematic! It will really help.... I'll go ahead and check those resistors out. Is there anyway to just turn off and bypass the battery check?

You should also make sure the button battery voltage its getting to the RAM chips.

A dirty socket can cause a RAM to not get powered.

Try re-seating the RAM chips and see if the error goes away.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

No way to turn off battery check.  Remember these are casino machines, and due to regulations, they must have a way of retaining accounting information in case there is a power outage or the machine fails due to a power supply issue or whatnot.  If you are a player with $300 credit on the machine, you want your money back.

Somebody a while ago posted that they were simply omitting the green battery and soldering a jumper wire across the remaining pads.

I asked my friend who had a lot of boards to play with to see if it worked and was told it worked fine and he does it on all of his boards now.

Try that.

I really don't understand how this is possible? If I remove the battery where do I solder the jumper wires to? I completely removed the green batt (tattle tale circuit) and I have left the 3v coin cell battery, which is the one that is giving me the error.

Solder a wire across the same PC pads the green battery was soldered to.

It is a 502 board no jumpers or green battery needed. For those trying to help please read the entire post carefully before you muddy the waters with garbage.
1)Have you confirmed your battery voltage is correct. It should be at least 2.85.
2) Are you sure you have the polarity correct. You say you put a holder in. Is the orientation correct? The positive lead soldiers close to the edge of the board.

Battery voltage has been confirmed at 3.2vdc

Battery holder has the right polarity. On the battery holder the polarity signs were observed. The positive side is closest to the edge of the board.

No jumper, fine, then I repeat my original suggestion of measuring the battery voltage at the RAM chips to see if the voltage is getting to them.

This I have not done. Can you tell me based on my pic where the vcc and ground pins are to get that measurements at the ram chips? I don't have a schematic to show the ram chips. I thought the ram chips are like the computer (PC) base ram chips, I may be wrong but the 2 slots that look like the ram chips would be inserted, are empty.

I see a ram chip on the daughter board but based on further research from his board, I noticed that the sound board is for the sound.

No jumper, fine, then I repeat my original suggestion of measuring the battery voltage at the RAM chips to see if the voltage is getting to them.
