G20 some buttons are dim

Some of the images on my buttons are dim on my G20. Do I need to get a new button panel?

No, you need to replace the buttons, they fade over time.  Be prepared to dig deep in your pocket, they are very expensive.

Yeah I had a few that were very dark, almost black.  I paid $70 per new button.

The LCD's or OLED's inside of these buttons have a finite lifespan of 35,000 hours...which is pretty close to 4 years.

They're like really, really expensive light-bulbs.... :rotfl:


$70 isn't bad considering the prices of some places like Suzo Happ.

If you are going to make the investment to switch buttons, go with the edgelit buttons.  You may have to change your button controller or have someone flash it with the newer firmware.  Edgelit buttons are much better eyecandy.

Are there alternatives to OLED that can be used as drop in replacements that don't burn out.....

I don't know if this particular line of machines (G20, G23) ever had static buttons like the ones used on Game King's or S2000's.

I'm not sure if there's a way to use standard buttons at all.

 :)) I wasn't expecting that much for 1 button.  This is my first machine like this. The only other machine I have is an PE Plus.

There's absolutely ZERO guarantee of how long it will last? lol

Come to think of it, there's no guarantee of how long a new button will last either!  :24:

As long as they work and are nice and bright they are worth the $40.  Beats $75 plus.

It then begs the question - about the refurbishment process - perhaps it can be done for less.
Ie are the OLeDs available and how easy are they to swap out.

Those screens are for the WMS type, but not for AVP.  I don't think they sell the ones for AVP.

I have nothing newer than a PE+ but am always interested in shiny things.

This is interesting to me as one of the tech projects I got involved with had a need for a round LCD screen. Not a square with a Bezel but truly round as the information to be displayed needed to track the curvature of the horizon in relation to ground based objects to calculate distances. The tech was going to be used in self driving vehicles but has long since been discounted in leiu of lidar.

I really think that the solution is not soley smart vehicles but connected vehicles. Every object reporting on its surroundings, shared with every other object. Ie a stationary street light would be better to report that there is a person below/beside/behind moving at what vector and what speed than an approaching vehicle that needs to "watch" for these events. if it can get info from the street light, and the car infront, behind, beside in addition to information it collects you could do so much better than just the car alone.

The AVP oleds are soldered into the button's board, it would require some really good soldering skills and equipment to replace them.
