S2000 intermittent sound issues
« on: May 13, 2024, 10:42:02 PM »
Like the vital says the sound comes and goes with no rhyme or reason whatsoever, seems to do it every 5-40 min.

Any suggestions to try?

Thanks Scott

Go to the "Look Here First" section in the S2000 part of the Forum.
Here's a link to that page...>>>  https://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=21511.0

Scroll down to " S2000 Hum or Buzz from Speakers " and read on it...might help

Check your speaker wiring too....maybe you need a new amp?
Could be some IC component on it going bad too.
It's located up in the topbox on the back wall.
I've attached a picture below to show you what it looks like.

Thanks for the reply, I actually did go through that last night and my read the exact buzz text.

How would I know if I have the 502 or the 504 board?

Incidentally, I opened up the machine this morning to take a look at that board, and when I closed the cabinet, the sound started again.

It does have a buzz while it sits, which tells me it’s probably a 501or 502 board, i’ll have to see if the hum and the buzz sound is happening when there is no sound which might help figure out where the problem lies.

You mentioned it might need a new amp, how would I be able to tell if it’s the amp?

Both the right and the left speakers seem to be working when they’re working and so I’m not sure it’s a speaker issue.

I appreciate the feedback, I’ll reread your text and see if there’s something I can do.

Well, it seems after opening the top box I figured out the problem. It was very obvious.

That you suggested it’s mounted in the top right back of the upper box isn’t being used, there’s an additional board that is plugged in, but it’s just sitting against the sideboard, not even mounted and when I moved it around, I noticed the hum in the his come back and a little spark, telling me that it’s not grounded and needs to be mounted.

Every time I move the board away from the chassis, it’s not grounded and doesn’t work and the speakers don’t hum but as soon as I push it against the chassis, it becomes grounded and functions I supposed to

So at this point I can unmount the board that’s not being used and mount the board that is being used to obtain the grounding and the sound issue should be resolved.

Move onto upgrading to the 504 board. I’m guessing which should eliminate the hissing and buzzing is that correct

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Scott

Well,it now seems the grounding is not causing the issue but just the movement does so it’s prolly a connection with one of the four plug ins.

So there is 3 amps up there, one mounted and another just setting unused and the one with four plugs is also unmounted with possibly a connection issue causing the intermittent sound issue.

Is a 504 amp the solution to the horrible hissing?

How would I know if I have the 502 or the 504 board?

There are two white rectangular labels attached to the main MPU circuit board.
If you look at the last three numbers on one of the labels, you will see something like "502" or "504" or something else.
Sometimes there's an audio multimedia lite (MML) piggyback board over half of one label.
Just pull off the MML piggyback audio sound board and you'll be able to see the label stuck to the main MPU board.

Do NOT remove or install any slot machine circuit boards in or out of their sockets while the power switch is ON....always turn OFF the power switch.

hmmm...the "little spark" you saw in the top box is NEVER good.
Somebody was messing around with the top box area.
You should show us some high-resolution photos of up to 1000kb in size.
Maybe a member can spot a problem.

To answer your last question, the hiss sounds you hear are the result of the slot machine now located in a quieter environment of your home or basement rather than a noisy full-blown casino with a zillion machines a'running and people and music playing.
MLG member Lookes has had success in modding a 501 or 502 MPU to have better sounds.
You might want to get in touch with him and see if he has time to help fix your MPU.
