Cesars has partnered with Starwood. I like the Starwood properties. Westin, Sheraton. Hemsley in NYC is also a Starwood. The point system is great. Cosmo has gone with Marriot. MGM with Hyatt. Hyatts are great properties but their program sucks. You really need to be traveling a lot to get any status or comps.
The Marriot group are jerks. I had a room booked from expedia with two queen beds at a Marriot, When we arrived (4 of us) the desk clerk says congradulations we just upgraded you to a king suite. I asked how many beds. She said one. I said I guess you have two rooms for us as we have 4 people. They offered to bring in a single cot but wouldn't bring in two due to fire regs. Then they suggested our infant could sleep in our bed. I turned to my 16 and 14 year olds and asked which one of you is the infant. Then they said they could put some bedding on the floor. I told them none of the options were acceptable. I then pulled out my gold Marriot card (our company used marriot and I traveled a lot) and they said that because I booked through expedia that the card was of no value, and room configurations were not guarenteed. Two managers later they could not fix the problem because they were full, and they refused to move us to another one of their properties in town as this was a prepaid expedia reservation and if I didn't like it I could just forfit my reservation and eat the cost. So this is in the middle of July in downtown toronto on a Saturday night in the middle of wedding season. I managed to book a room at the Sheraton at about $480 + tax, and walked out.  The next day was spent getting bumped around a call center by Expedia but to their credit they refunded the new room cost so I was only stuck with the original set of charges.
The next time I ran into problems was at the Marriot Marquee in NYC. They have a revolving restaurant at the top of the hotel in the middle of times sq. We did the theater thing thing then went up for a late dinner. The staff were too busy talking to each other to seat us. When we were finally told to go have a seat in the lounge as the main dining room was now closed since it was after 9.00. We were then told it was a two drink minimum, and if we wanted the buffet go help ourselves. My friend was on a restricted diet and could not have garlic or onions. None of the staff could tell us which dishes were seasoned that way. The food was terrible, so when the bill came they charged us $48 for drinks (4 x $12) - again my friend was just drinking gingerale - no booze and $65/ea for the cold buffet. They then brought 3 credit card chits - with 25%, 20% and 15% tips written in... because international guests have no idea about tips. I told her to bring a blank one. I filled in a great big zero and wrote lousy service. I then tried to find a manager to tell him what a rip off the place was but he/she had gone home when the dining room closed. I then tried to complain at the front desk, got the rolling eyes, followed by a panflet to send feedback to head office. Six weeks later I got a form letter that said thank you for your feedback and your name has been entered into a draw for 10,000 Marriot points. No personalization, no acknoledgement of my concerns.
I have since converted all my marriot points to airline points, cut up the card and sent it into Marriot reitteriating my displeasure with the chain. Not even an acknowledgement of it. So the best I get to do is be very vocal and tell all my friends not to stay at Marriot branded properties.
Sheraton and Westin all the way folks.....
