So I went to a casino yesterday....
« on: April 23, 2014, 06:04:06 PM »
I was working next door to a local casino (we have 4 of them) so after work I went inside.

I see some Game King 5.0 machines but the first two would not accept my bills after several attempts. So I move to a 3-play/5-play poker nearby. It took my money, but I see the top glass is cracked, and poorly taped. The belly glass fluorescent is extremely dim. Only one 'hold' button has a working bulb. The 'spin' button is crooked and broken. The 'bet one' button has the legend in upside down (and backwards!  :duh: ). The CRT has a slight wobble to the picture every few seconds. I could go on....

I found it slightly amusing while at the same time feeling a bit disgusted and annoyed because these things are easy and cheap fixes. Owning my own machines probably makes me notice these things a little too much, but still...  :wtf1:
I want to contact someone there and say "take some pride in your fucking machines, losers!!  :loser: ".
On the plus side I won more money than I made working that day but I still have very mixed emotions about it.  :-\ ;)

Well, Sign up -Get your Gaming Lic. and Help them out part time.  I bet if you directed this post in the proper way you could help out and get some very good info along the way.  I see this daily-- If the game still works, patrons will play them.  Last time we went played a old double diam. 5-dollar and wife hit it for 800.00 first try-lights out etc.

They could at least do the little things that would keep them cosmetically looking decent.  :soapbox_3:
I'll take a part-time bulb/button tender job but they surely wouldn't hire me unless I tone it down a bit.  :rotfl:

Prob. Not.  I thought about it as well just to be a peon but I changed my mind.  Some of us here could completly staff a full-blown legit casino!- :duh: :applause: :Tongue_Out: .  Are we on to something here-? pull resources and open a NLG casino----I would be in if the $ is right-- :arrowthruhead: .

You would think with all the Gaming laws/rules they would require machines to be "fully" functional. Nothing worse than sticky buttons when playing poker.
Some casinos one machine the player card reader doesn't work, next one the touch screen is bad, next one has no sound, etc!
GameKings that have the speed cranked up and not adjustable will cause me to walk away too.

My observations are that keno players destroy a machine faster than poker/slot players. They bang on the repeat bet button even while the numbers are being drawn like they're playing a tournament machine. Then they bang on the CRT with diamond rings, etc. There is a bank of newer IGT keno machines at the Edgewater in Laughlin that have big LCD monitors with various lines on them that look like damage to me. A real shame.

All that along with badly faded real strips, no sound, and faded glass artwork from the fluorescent lighting are just a few of the things I notice in nearly every casino.  The one thing in the Florida casino's (at least the non-tribal ones) is that they are all non-smoking, so when the machines go up for sale, you are getting some pretty clean machines internally with no tar/nicotine gunk.

A trip to Vegas always makes me appreciate the games at home all the more.  I like single line, 3 reel simple games.  most of that type in Vegas are poorly maintained.  No enhanced sound, backlit reel lamps burned out or not there to begin with, etc.  When I get back home, I feel proud of the home toys!  :-)  Such simple maintenance they do not bother with.  I wish there was a casino operator that was as anal as I am about keeping the stuff looking good, and turn oj the enhanced sound if the machine is capable.

We've all become too hyper aware!  :24:
Here's another annoying thing from that visit; They didn't have Caveman Keno enabled on the Game Kings and I know it's in there.  :hissyfit:

The fact you already knew that I am always looking up says we probably do it too much.  :))

Riverside Casino in Laughlin shutoff Cleopatra Keno in most if not all of their machines. Must be because your money lasts a bit longer.  :hissyfit:
And they have the worst music playing I've ever heard!!

It's a pretty popular game too, in my experience. I run Cleo Keno or Caveman on autoplay frequently while I play other machines here at home. Cleo keno seems like it never runs out of money like you say, and Caveman seems like it pays much larger but needs to be fed lots more.
