A California state senator who has been an outspoken gun control advocate was arrested Wednesday, accused of helping to broker illegal gun sales in exchange for campaign donations.

State Sen. Leland Yee (D-CA), considered by some to be a rising star in state politics, is accused of accepting bribes from FBI agents who posed as East Coast mobsters.  The San Francisco Democrat, who is running for secretary of state, was being held on $500,000 bail. In an elaborate sting that's being likened to the movie "American Hustle," a total of 26 arrests were made.  The probe began five years ago with federal agents going after Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow, a reputed gangster who ran a Chinese criminal organization with ties to Hong Kong.
 Yee faces six counts of depriving the public of honest services and one count of conspiracy to traffic in guns without a license. He’s also accused of trying to help an undercover agent obtain weapons from a Muslim rebel group.
