Bally 6000 never gets door open code (50)
« on: March 02, 2021, 01:53:32 AM »
Hi. My slot acts as if it were always closed. No 50 code. I have 00 in the coin in display, and the Insert coin light blinks.  The comparitor ‘s light is green but does not accept coins ( Micro Comparitor).   After the ram clear, no way to get rid of the date/ time etc infos we usually clear by pressing the service button. I had to close the door which made the reels to calibrate and brought the machine to what I explained before.  Puzzling...

I tested another comparitor with coin optics  underneath coming from a 5500. I put the proper cable as well. Same result: coins go down without being taken into account by the machine.  I inspected the board and noticed U28 had a broken pin. I will burn a new set and test it to check if any change comes.

More infos. The issue comes from the board. I tested another board on the same machine and it worked.  50 showed when the door was open and went away when the door was closed.  So, with the first board, it can be ram cleared perfectly but the Service button does not respond. The machine is considered as closed all the time and does not accept coins. Any idea? Thank you.

You said the issue comes from the board. I will assume you mean the MPU board. Sounds to me at least one of the IC's is bad. With the schematic you could probably determine which one(s) could be bad. If you solder you could try replacing IC(s) and installing sockets. Or you could send it out for repair. Plenty of vendors on the home page and some of us on the forum repair electronics.

You can fix almost any electronic device by replacing the aluminum electrolytic capacitors.

Fixed.  There was a shortcut underneath the mpu coming from the wire to which I had soldered the battery. One small wire was in contact with another part.
