What bios version are you using?  It shoud be the 2000 bios.  Also how many lines are you configuring your game vs the max number of lines your front panel can display (i.e. the line numbers on the left side of the glass).  I believe there is a 20 line display and a 25 line display.  I have a 20 line display and I tried to configure a 25 line game and it gave me the assert fail.

Using 2000 bios. I will have to check the display. Do not get to configure the game --- this error comes up after a ram clear. The ethernet cables were off the door today. I wonder if they are in the correct sockets ??? ? Thanks

if the spn cables were unplugged that would cause the error to.  It is trying to initialize the device, and it can't find it.

Double check to see if Ethernet cables are in correct spots especially on the display....but with that said, if they were unplugged for cleaning, these plugs are very hard to remove on the display ports and it would be possible to damage them pretty easy.  Might suggest you replace the display board altogether and try again.
