IGT S+ no display
« on: February 11, 2019, 07:28:36 PM »
Hello all and thanks in advance for any help. I just picked up an american dream slot machine. when i power it up, all the fluorescents come on, BV powers up, but i have no display/ error code. I ordered a manual and troubleshooting guide, but thought i would ask for help here as well. I checked all the fuses in the front of the power supply, all good. checked all the connectors( made sure they were all pushed in/ MPU seems to be seated good) without having a schematic to go by, I'm a little lost.

You know that white Molex that goes to the motherboard on the floor from the power supply?
Pull it up and off with the machine turned off.
Turn it around and see if the 2nd pin is browned out.
That would mean the pin inside is oxidized.
You may need a new power supply harness if you cannot change female receptor pin inside that Molex connector.

For now, you may get away with raising the Molex connector housing ever so slightly about an 1/8th of an inch and slightly tilting it to the right.
That may get a new connection on the oxidized pin and turn on your display panel.
However, with an oxidized receptor pin, the problem will come back so it might be time to try and either replace that pin or the harness altogether.

is the denomination lamp on,  reels stiff when power on?    if no, then no power to the cpu, check the fuses with a meter,

can you enter into the test mode, (press the white button near the on/off switch ?   is the plug plugged into the display board?

there are two plugs one for the denom, coin in and coin accept, and the other for the digital displays.  you can check for +vb across the electrolytic cap right near the plug on the display board, +10-12 volts.

If the denom lamp is ON, check the 5-pin black connector from the door harness connected to the display panel upwards.
That's the one Jim is talking about. ( the display panel's left connector.)
It's located to the right of the coin comparitor.
The wire colors are : blue/grey/grey/red/green.

Pull it out downwards and push it back in.
There's a tiny tab dead center on the housing.
That connector is directly related to the [Coins Played] display.

There's another way to check to display panel but a little more complicated.
Jim explained above.
Try checking the black display connector as well...I'm guessing it may have come loose?

Of course, with no photos to go by, I'm assuming this is the "long" display panel that runs across the bottom of the reel glass?

Yes, a picture of their display board would help.

does the machine work?  even without the displays on the machine will work,  if this is the case, you probably have a connection on the motherboard in the wrong place. this usually will pull down the strobe 2 signal, thus killing the displays. If I remember correctly it is a six pin connector in the wrong slot.

metering the back side of the board, the five pin plug on the bottom left, i have just over 10v across the red/blk and green wires. other three pins didn't register any voltage, assuming they are clock/data info or?

If your taking pictures with your cell phone camera you can shrink the size by emailing the picture to yourself - typically your cell will give you the option to make the attachment small, medium or Large.
Send it as small, then save the picture and upload the smaller version.

In Reply #10, Jim asked you if the machine works?

Can you try something for me?
Open the door....now, under the coin comparitor is the coin-in optics board there's a tiny button "Service Credit" button on it right under where the brownish-red Molex connector plugs into the white coin-in optics board 9-pin header.
My header is black...yours is white but both of our connectors are sort of brownish-red.
You'll see it right on top of the coin chute.

Turn on the machine, wait about 7-10 seconds for the machine to "boot up".
Now, press the "Service Credit" button three times on the coin-in optics board - that puts 3 credits into your 3-line game.
Reach over with your other hand and press the play button...the game should play one spin.

If not, we have other problems we need to address besides your unlit display board.
