Reel "scrape"
« on: October 07, 2015, 08:09:35 PM »
All of a sudden my S+ seems to have developed a "scraping" noise from the reels as they spin.  If the front door is open I don't hear it when the machine first cycles.  I only hear it with the door closed in normal play.

I see that there is a sticky about reel noise but it isn't clear (to me) of the exact noise that the fix is intended to resolve.  Is this the same thing?

Check the wiring for the fluorescent tube that is above the reel glass on the door (that lights the reels when the door is closed).  Over time, that wire tends to stretch and droop in the center, causing it to rub on the middle reel.

I'm talking about where the red arrow points to in the attached picture.  The wiring that goes across the top of the fixture tends to droop down over time, especially when the door is closed (you can see the wires droop down as you close the door).

:duh:   Found it!  The nuts under the led display came loose.  That allowed the whole unit to tilt back just enough to rub against the reels (once per 360 spin) but I couldn't see it through the glass.
