Arm won't unlock
« on: December 14, 2015, 03:33:14 PM »
Hi all, newbie here I have a ballys 25c three coin slot machine that was recently moved. I was testing it and it worked fine for about 15 spins and then it blew a fuse. After  I replaced the fuse all of the lights stay on and the arm will not unlock when i insert a coin. I can manually unlock the arm and it will work normal it pays out on all three lines. I hope there is some easy fix, thanks

A few tidbits that might help

When the fuse blew it also tripped the house fuse
The fuse is a 5amp and is connected to the black wire from the plug and a blue/white that goes to the cluster.
The little wire trigger in the coin slot will blow the fuse when I toggle it, but not every time maybe one in ten or so but randomly.

I would take the machine apart and look around and see if there's a coin floating in there on something

Welcome to NLG. If it's tripping the house fuse (breaker) make sure the fuse in the machine is a 5amp and not a 20 or bigger. If you use an auto type fuse that is the same length but say a 20amp and the house breaker is a 15 amp. It will throw the house breaker. Make sure the fuse types are correct and as ovenguy said look for something causing a short.

check your power cord - since you said you recently moved it - and the cord does protrude thru the bottom of the machine - they tend to get damaged.

Thanks for the replies.

It is a 5amp fuse
I checked the power cord it is solid until it gets into the machine the wires then attach to the back of the machine where the fuses are. There is no visual damage.

It only shorts when I manually toggle the coin trigger(I tried this to see if it would unlock the arm)

Everything works, the arm pulls, the reels spin, it pays on a win. The only thing that is not working is when I put a coin in it doesn't release the lock on the arm, and all of the lights are lit

Hello,

Had a very similar problem with a 1088 quarter machine.
The 5 amp fuse would blow randomly when the coin in switch was tripped.
Found a wire that had worn through on the case caused by the door opening and closing.
On the left side near the top hinge there is a loom of wires wrapped in black tape.
Check the portion of the loom nearest the metal case edge.
If you don't find it there, try moving any accessible wires. It doesn't take a lot of movement.
Also be cautious, safety first.
