962 100 coin pay out
« on: January 28, 2016, 07:16:38 PM »
Hi Everyone,

I have a 962, 3 coin, 3 line low boy.  It sat idle, unplugged for three years.  Powered up and works well besides a few light bulbs issues.  The one problem is with 3 bars (pays 100 coins) dont pay.   No action from hopper, as if it didn't hit.   Checked all other pays on all 3 lines.  Pays right amount in each case.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions/help.

    Jim

the first place I would look is on the hopper payboard pull the hopper out on the left side on the bottom of the board where the wire Sauder on I would put my meter on between the F terminal and the 100 terminal it should  show zero resistance
if its over 8 ohms you will need to clean the board

One other thing to check would be your wiper contact on the reel boards. The contact could not be making contact to the wiper board. I had something similar and mine was a wiper contact was not making contact to the wiper board on the third reel

Probably your outboard wiper for the 100 coin pay is not contacting, or the wire to it is broken, or it is misadjusted and not touching the 100 outboard pay tab....
You have two outboards, one top and one bottom. And they should have a jumper connecting them together. Sometimes the wire connection at bottom of payboard also comes loose or gets broken.  I am thinking look for an 81 wire (black red) as that is generally the 100 pay wire for most Ballys IIRC....

I am posting a couple pic's of reel wipers, are you referring to top two wipers when you say outboard?

Those are your reel wiper boards and wipers. You need to make sure the wipers are making contact to the boards when your in the 100 coin payout.

Jimliner,
I'm talking about the wipers on the hopper payboard.
Sorry about confusion.  Take a good look at your hopper, and the two sets of outboard wipers, top and bottom.
And look at your 100 coin pay tab at the bottom of the hopper board for a broken or loose wire where it is soldered in.

Ok, I take a look at hopper wipers.  Thanks for the help.  Here's a few more pic's.  I have not looked wipers inside. Only on the contacts on side.

That is your stepper/reset unit for multiple credits .... if I remember right. Advances as you deposit coins and will reset at the start of the next game.

Are the copper "wipers" supposed to be more centered on the board trace or maybe I'm not looking at it right?

Yes those contacts could be more centered.  You can loosen the two screws holding them onto the metal carriage, and adjust them if you wish.  Also note the paytab there that says 100.  It should connect to another tab that also says 100 at the bottom of your payboard where all the other wires are soldered in, too.
Again, look for a black with red (81) wire or something like that as your 100 pay feed wire.  It is probably loose or has broken off.  You can use a meter to test between the two 100 tabs to verify they are connected.

Remember not to use the meter directly on the wiper blade, it can add pressure to the connection that could make it read when it really doesn't. Use the lead on the solder connection or an earlier point.

I checked for continuity between "100" tabs and there is.  Checked for cont from "F" to all other # pay tabs and there is.  I did see a black wire with red trace it is solder to bottom 50 tab there is a grey wire w/yellow trace solder to bottom 100 tab.

That's odd to have a 93 wire (grey with yellow) as the 100 pay.  It is generally used for other stuff elsewhere, like to feed the 50V through the reels for pays from the 3rd reel.  Also I recall seeing it going to the hopper payout relay IIRC.  I seem to recall it as being the Feed wire......
Yes, I just looked at an old hopper, and the 93 IS the feed wire.  You should see it connect to the payout relay coil.
You should re-check what you looked at with a good bright flashlight.
