Help with Bally m9000 (newbie)
« on: August 10, 2015, 09:26:54 PM »
I just purchased, from what my limited knowledge believes to be, a Bally Alpha video slot machine. The machine is working great and I am very happy. However, I do have a few questions about this machine.

1) The machine seems to be in demo mode, is this why the machine will not take any money or print out any tickets? (I have the machine in my man cave and would love to be able to print out some personalized tickets for fun).

2) If it is truly in demo mode, can this be taken off and returned to normal play mode and vice-versa?

3) The mpu is a 300hz and I believe the Ram Clear card I need is AVOCLEAR0312-04 but I want to make sure I'm right with this?

4) Where can I find a Ram Clear card to purchase? (Ebay does not seem to have the specific version I need)

5) Is there a list of games that are compatible with this machine? Is it easy to change games? I would love to start a collection but fear I'm in a bit over my head currently.

Thank you for any and all help I could get as I am new to this type of machine.

The screen says you have over 10,000 credits in the machine, how did they get there?  It may not be taking bills because it is past the bill limit (the amount of credits at which the machine will no longer take bills).

The clear is based on the OS you have.  The photo says 317, which would make the 312 clear the correct one. There are many sponsors on this site who can provide you with it.

Game changes are pretty easy.  Power off, remove both CF cards.  You put the clear card where the os card is and boot up and follow the on-screen instructions to clear.  Put the os back and the new game.  Boot up and configure.  I made a video that covers the setup of an alpha game.

Thank you for the quick response. The machine is currently set to add credits when you touch the credits on the screen. I have tried cashing out so there are 0 credits in the machine but it still does not even try and pull the bills into the validator. The bill validator does light up but does not make any noises upon start up. Is this because the game is in demo mode? Do you know how to take the game out of demo mode?

In all of the searching I have done, I have found no information on this game. Does anyone know anything about the demo mode and how to get out of it?

Did this machine come out of a casino or was a display slot used by Bally??  It's a one of kind.  CLear the machine as Rick suggested and see what happens.

That's a great question and unfortunately I do not know the answer. I bought this from a private seller off craigslist. He had inherited the machine from his father and knew little to nothing about it. The machine came with no keys and was stuck with a hand pay notice on the screen. I removed the key switch and replaced it with a toggle switch (took about 2 minutes and I didn't have to splice any wires) so that I could easily reset the machine when cashing out or after a big win.

It has an Ithaca 850 printer inside with plenty of tickets. I know there's power to the printer because when I load the tickets the printer with run a single ticket out of the front in order to put the next ticket in the correct position. However it does not print when I press cash out.

So I checked the game and it has no numbers at all on the card, only a tag that says Acme Jackpot. I did find a sticker in the machine that says Terrible, Las Vegas so I assume that's the casino the machine came out of.

Does anyone know if the games listed above would work for this machine? I found a seller for the Ram Clear card I need and he has these games as well and I thought, if they are compatible, I might as well get everything together.

****Update****
Through a bit more research and contact with the man I bought the machine from, I found out that this machine was an original piece by Richard Fiore. I don't know a lot about who this is but it sounds kind of cool.

Ms Clara T AVGCLRT00100-02, <==this one should work
Fortune Eights AVGFRTN017UI-00, <==this one should work
Breakout AVGATBK01700-01,  <==this one requires a special spinner controller (which I have yet to find myself)
Black & White 7"S Two Way Frenzy AVGBWF701600-00, (these were made for cinevision machines, it will work on your machine, but image will look squeezed)
Bonus Frenzy Free Games 2 Way AVGBFFG017UI-01, ((these were made for cinevision machines, it will work on your machine, but image will look squeezed)
Super Fireball Frenzy AVGSFBF01600-01 (these were made for cinevision machines, it will work on your machine, but image will look squeezed)

Provided you have standard M9000 hardware inside and nothing custom made to make that game behave the way it does.  You have quite a unique game.  I have never seen anything like it before.

I wouldn't know if the hardware is standard or custom. I will go to my back house in a bit and take pictures of the innards and post them so that you more knowledgeable folks can let me know. haha

2 things.

1) Has anyone with knowledge in this area been able to look at the pictures of the inside of my machine to perhaps provide me with any new information?

2) I ordered the new games and ram clear card and they arrived at my house today. I'm stuck at work like a kid waiting to open presents on Christmas haha.

P.S. I really love this site and how much I am learning everyday by browsing the topics. You guys rock!

Your machine does not look like any alpha I've ever seen.  But I've never seen really early alphas.  Usually the alpha's I've seen have the power supplies on the left side of the cabinet and the AMP board up in the middle of the cabinet behind the monitor.  You seem to have some kind of amp circuit below the backplane.  The backplane is also not a type I've ever seen on an alpha 1.  You might want to wait and see if someone else chimes in before you clear the software.  Pull out the MPU (the thing where all the connections are hooked up) and post a picture of what it looks like top down.  That will help us identify what type of MPU you have.  The MPU looks like a really early alpha MPU though.

I will pull out the mpu when I get home. I do know that the lock on the top left of the mpu (I'm assuming this is what holds it in place) is locked and I do not have the key. Is there a trick that I need to know on what the best way to get the mpu out is?

See the little handle that is under the power plug.  Grab onto that and just pull the MPU out.  Make sure all the cables are unplugged.

I unplugged all the cables but the mpu would not pull out due to the lock which I don't have a key to. See attached picture. I'm in a jam here.

The Lock must be removed or opened- 52593 is a generic key.  Look and make sure it is not logged or jiggled around in bottom. If not there is a med-evil option.  Gently pry left side with a tool of your choice, remove mpu, remove lock, jumper the case switch and logic door (easy only 2-pin wires).  This will allow you axcess to see your bios and juristiction chip as well as service battery in future.  You don't need to do this at this point but it will happen as far as service, You can do your game changes via the logic door. You will prob. have many questions about a game change witch being a contributing member in the archives will answer or someone else. -- :cool_thumb_up:   As a note, Their is nothing special about your machine.  I have two slated to leave here soon as far as all internals, The software is prob. just show or expo stuff.  The sound amp etc. pwr. supply is all correct for this era m-9000 .
