Bluebird kinda disappointing... Compare to Bally MPUs
« on: July 07, 2014, 01:21:32 PM »
After having my Zeus machine for almost I month, I am starting to get to know how the games/OS work. There are a couple of games that I want to find, like GOLDFISH and some other "dual screen" games.

Here is what I am really, kinda disappointed in. Some of the games I have do not run smooth at all. Zeus 2, POR 3, seem to run sluggish. Jungle Wild plays some what smooth, but the BIG WIN animations makes it sluggish.

Playing these same games in the casino running on a BB2 make the games perfect. But is there something in between? like the differences between the 256 vs 1gig MPU with a Bally Alpha? Or do I just need to upgrade to a BB2...

and what the hell is a BB1.5?... Is that like an Alpha 1gig MPU?

Any clarification would help.

Do you have 512 meg simm in the CPU?  Also, those games that are sluggish where really made for the BB2 but will run on a BB1.  The BB2 has more memory, a HD and a much faster and more powerful processor.

BB1.5 is a BB1 with a BB2 CPU in it.
If it ain't broke don't mess with it.....

On power up check the screen to see how fast your processor is

Being sluggish you might find that you are running a 300mhz processor which is only good for the older games

I know for a fact it has a 512MB memory chip. Can I expand to a 1gig?

And yes, its a 650MHz MPU.

So to run games like Goldfish and other dual screen games I need a BB2 MPU?

No, all the dual screen games only play on a BB1.  So Gold Fish will play perfectly.

Well, I think you have a problem.  Unless you have the dual screen top box in your machine, the WMS dual screen won't fit.  Look at my avatar, it's a dual screen Goldfish machine. So you need to change out your top box.  One of the vendors can help you with that.

I was thinking about putting a smaller screen in my top box for the time being. I've done it with my Bally M9000. I jimmy rigged a PC monitor and that can also rotate for V20/v32 games. I don't have a problem doing that with the WMS machine too.

You can probably get by with a smaller monitor but it would have to be the same aspect ratio as the lower monitor.  A small PC monitor may work but if it does the image on the screen will be pretty distorted.  Also, you will need the TSE board for the top box video card as well as all the interconnection cables.

Good luck with that project!!!!

I've done this before!

Any 1024 x 768 monitor will work perfectly without distortion.

You do need a tse fly board to control the top monitor -   We can help you with the cables  It can be made for pennies with a few parts from Mouser.com

That's the kind of answer I was looking for. Thank you!

Where do I get one of these boards and what EXACTLY do I need besides that?

The tse-fly board is going to be the main hardware component that you will need for most dual BB1 games.   There are some dual bb1 dual screen games that require your button deck to have the extra animated oval button located to the left of the round repeat bet button.  (Gold Fish is on of them)

Now as to where to get a tse-fly  -   I wish I could name an easy source -  they are pretty hard to come across and get your checkbook ready.   I would systematically contact each of the above vendors as well as a post in the classified section.    They run a few hundred dollars and I haven't seen any on eBay in a long time.

then you're in -

the top monitor VGA plug connects to the tse-fly board

the software goes in the bb1 mpu and a second card goes in the tse-fly

and you are good to go.

The Tse fly board also requires a 12 volt power to fire it up.  Most of the time, you can just harness 12v from the top box connectors in a BB1 cabinet.
