Configuration crc eprom error

Hello. I decided to get new software for my 3902 board.  I did my research this one appears to give me more slots and more Keno tthan my current one.


I purchased the set from vendorr from this forum. Got it in today installed it however I'm getting an error - configuration crc eprom error  after it boots up and I do the ram clear. I tried putting my key chip 17 in, booting (I get 1 amber light)  then restarting with my base chip however same thing. I get the ram error which I clear with the reset key and then it brings me to the eprom error.


Any thoughts? I was really excited for this software set (since I have a sound issue I can't fix(Tilt knows about this. Lol)

with a 3902 board you should be using key 22

I use a key 17 on mine all the time.  I should clarify, I use a 17 to keychip only.  If you are changing games you will have to clear as well which will require a 22 or 40.

You have to turn the jackpot reset key a couple of times, once for every error message, then you will be prompted to hold in the reset button for 3 seconds then prompted to close the door.

I'm confused. On my current software setup

 I've used my key chip 17  to access the key chip menu to select games and the denominations. So you're saying that I'm going to need another key chip for this software which will get rid of this eprom error?


Badbaud - when I first turn it on I get an eeprom error screen saying to turn the reset key. I do that then I get that eprom error screen in my 1st post it cannot go any further than that. I've tried turning the reset key multiple times closing door, opening the door.

Key 17 is the proper key for your game software.  Key 40 will work, but ONLY if you clear RAM and EEPROM every time you use it.  That's not very convenient if you just want to change one setting. 

That error message is telling you there is a problem with the base chip.  You should be getting two amber lights when you keychip the machine.  Since neither the game base chip or keychip is working correctly on that MPU board it has me thinking that there may be a problem with it.  Try putting that software on a different MPU board and see if it works.

Tilt is spot on. I was shipped a bad base chip from ebay which was taken care of properly (believe it or not lol), popped the 2nd chip I got in and booted right up. Def either a bad base chip, or like tilt was leading into a problem with that socket, cold solder joint or something since your base and key chips are placed in the same socket. If it works on a different mpu board, then ya found your culprit

Cool thank you guys. When I get home tonight I will try my spare board  and if I get the same results I'll go back to the vendor and ask if I can get another base chip.

Just wanted to update you guys. So I tried my original software on both my boards and I have no issues with booting up. However when I try this new software on either board I can't get it to boot past that eprom error.


The vendor is sending me another base chip so I'll get you guys in a couple more days.
