NEWBIE trying to Solve error 3100
« on: December 31, 2019, 12:41:15 PM »
Hey everyone, been studying up and trying to track down the cause for an error I am getting on a machine I purchased. Heres some history

Purchased as working and loaded it up in my truck after removing hopper, coin tray/coins. Setup everything in the garage and didn't have power. Ended up jostling the AC power cord that had become dislodged and it started right up with no problems. When everything booted up I am showing a error 3100.

The Door optics test is showing that they aren't reading after attempting the alignment tricks.
I have also tested the Hopper and it appears to be working correctly.
I checked continuity through the other various switches in the belly door, bill collector, etc.

Is my next smartest option to order a set of door optics? Can I bypass them to test if thats the actual issue or is there a way to test that circuit to see if I am having a issue with power or if the optics have just gone bad?

I am a complete amateur with slot machines but I studied mechanical engineering and know just enough circuits to get myself in trouble at this point so any help would be very much appreciated! thanks!

3100 is just an extra coin paid out.  Open and close the door to clear.  Check hopper brake spring.

Right, however like I mentioned if the door optics are not working correctly it doesnt read the door being reset. Thanks for the recommendation!

OK. You need to focus on fixing the door optics then, not bypassing them.  Check if they are lined up properly and test if they are working.  New ones are cheap and easy to find.

Yep, the door optics are not reading as aligned based off the key test. Not getting alternating 1/0 when opening and closing the door. Should I just purchase door optics or is there a way to test these with a multimeter to make sure they are the issue?

Someone should chime in the best procedure.  You can remove the reel glass and see with a cell phone camera if they are working and lined up.  I have never had to do it.

The door optics use infrared light that you can’t see with the naked eye.
If you use a digital camera - such as a cell phone camera - the emitter will look like a faint pulsing light.
One of the optics is the emitter the other is a receiver. You will only see light coming from the emitter.
You do this when the door is open.

If you see the light then the usual problem is alignment.

I would suggest tracing the wires and ensure they are plugged in. They may have jiggled loose while you were transporting the unit.
If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.
