BB1 no sound .

I bought a nonworking BB1 and just got the correct OS and Game cards. Booted up and plays. No  sound.  Turned up the volume to max on the players volume control on the mini display.  No help.  Went into diagnostic and sound setup and  set it to 20, max. I can only hear a faint sound from door alarm.  Reseated the Molex at the backplane and the audio cable at the amp. I will find a cable and connecte my phone to the amp to see if I get sound.  What else do I need to check?  Is there a specific sound card?

I  connected my phone to the audio jack and still no sound.  Being there is only a faint open door alarm sound when the door is open,   is it  safe to assume the amp is bad ?

The amp on the bb2 can be either digital or analog.  If your amp has a digital cable (coax cable from mpu to amp), make sure it is connected on both ends (on the mpu it is the rca jack on top of the mpu, kind of in the middle).  If it is using the analog side, the plug is an rca minijack connected to the amp board and a molex (want to say 6 pin) that goes to backplane.  You can test the amp by connecting phone and test the mpu sound by connecting the audio output from the backplane to amplified speakers.  Your amp should only have one set of cables (either analog or digital).  If you have both, it won't work right, especially if the digital cable is plugged in while using the analog side.  The cable will ground if it is touching the cabinet disabling the analog side.  So make sure you only have one type connected.

The sound is generated by the MPU's integrated chipset, there's no discrete audio card in these setups.

Dumb question, did you connect your phone to the audio jack that plugs into the amp, or did you get another cable and connect your phone to the amp?  You need to connect your phone to the amp with a minijack to minijack cable.

Post a photo of your amp to see if the wiring is all there.  I wonder if you have +24 volts going into the amp?

I used a separate mini audio cable from my phone to the jack on the amp.  The  green LED is lit and flashing on the amp. I  removed the amp to inspect and  reflow the  jack and  power pins.  I checked the large cap with my ESR meter and it is good.

Replace the amp and see what happens, it is the easier cheaper thing to try first.  The other potential issue are the speakers.
