I have it working!!  no pic but getting a signal on 800x600 and 1360x788, pics to come.  Screen moves like it is in sleep mode.  now may go to that breadboard fix with the 7400 ic. then if i get a good pic may go with the replacement lcd... first pic is signal in getting, 2nd is with it set at 640x480 and no signal.  third pic is how i installed converter and power supply to motherboard and monitor base...

Are you using CGA wiring or VGA wiring ?

The output of the slot would be CGA.

That is the answer. You are using a CGA to VGA convertor. So all good.

My understanding is that you are working with a known good video source from a PC or such.
Then using a VGA to CGA convertor to get a picture on your monitor. - of which your not getting a picture.
I am not a monitor tech - last thing I did in this vein was repair B&W TVs in high school electronics class - more years ago than I care to admit.
I cannot help you with the monitor repair.

CGA has 3 defined resolutions. 640×200 (128k) 320×200 (64k) 160×200 (32k) My suspicion is that the output would be 32bit @ 320x200.
and I am not sure if your convertor is taking the 640x480 resolution down to the x200 level.. and if not .... your not going to be getting a picture.
Some convertors simply modify the sync and pin outs from VGA to CGA while others down step the resolution.
Some convertors only work in one direction. Ie VGA in, CGA out. Others take CGA in and give VGA out so you can use new LCDs with old games.

Not knowing anything about your adapter I can't help you there either.

I did see that having a stable video signal was good progress and it looks like your on the right track to solving the issue. Sorry if I was not more clear in this area.

from what ive read, my pe+ puts out a 15mhz signal. pretty low for the lcd's and adapters that usually go for something in the 30's. there is a hack that i can build to make it work. it ensues a breadboard, a 7400 type ic, a few resistors and connecting it up to my converter.  lets see what happens.

To be 100% clear, I am asking if you have downloaded the Microsoft Word document created by PowderMaker that is attached at the bottom of reply #19 of that thread (direct link here)?

yes i did, and i would like to build color inverter/frequency modifier on a breadboard to get this video converter going. i do understand my lcd will not handle the low (15khz) and this addition is needed.  i dont like the idea of removing and replacing ic's from the motherboard. does someone have an idea on how to do this,  also NEC made a 15lcd that is a 15khz compatible.  if i got one of those would i even need this extra board??

I spoke with cetronix regarding their cpa3006.  430 bucks and 70 bucks shipping. I dont understand how there is not a board available that will enable me to just plug up any lcd monitor. i can find a 13", 14", 15" monitor and fit it in my unit. the rest should be easy..

The Suzo Happ version seems like the lower cost alternative.

There are a couple of threads here that show how to make a standard monitor work but I personally don't like any of them.
It would be nice to simply leave everything stock and then invert the signal before it plugs into a standard monitor.

I have about 6 boards for my PE+'s - faster to swap boards already loaded with chips than to swap chips.
I would have to modify each of them and thats not happenong.

Like you I have a ton of 15" square monitors around as everything has moved to widescreen these days.
