Need help
« on: July 19, 2021, 06:42:38 PM »
Hello all,

Recent picked up this machine didn’t power on, found cooling fan next to game board clogged up, after cleaning the machine booted but now throws an error and hangs on initializing please wait. I’m more familiar with fighting game arcade cabs. Any help would be appreciated or at least a direction. Buddy wants to put it in his basement in free play mode if that’s possible on these machines.

Does the machine have an attendant/jackpot reset key? It's a brass/gold key that fits in what's likely the top-right side of the machine.

If you don't have one, they're cheap and easy to get from eBay or one of the NLG vendors: key 2341

Using it will likely get you to the next step toward having the machine work.

It is missing the lock cylinder but when I jump out the connections on the error screen it says to hold the test button 2-5 seconds that’s when it hangs on the init screen.I’m probably going to buy a cylinder and key off of eBay. Just wanted to see the machine fully worked before I bought anything additional.

If it is just a single pole reset momentary switch - I put a round momentary pushbutton in place of the keyed reset switch.

Any momentary switch will work. If you need it to be keyed then get one.

Just curious - the reset key switch is on the right hand outside on most machines. The test button switch is in the inside. Just want to make sure you know there are 2 switches that need to be worked.

Looks like machine is a game king to me from the pictures...

Tony

If anyone wants to know what push buttons I use, I can post a picture. They are round, so the key switch hole needs to be drilled. I use a step drill.

When I power on up the candle flashes and says call attendant, then I open the door, it said cycle
the reset key I jump the two contacts that the lock cylinder hooks to on the right side on the outside it shows that error screen I jump the switch again, it tells me to hold the test button for 2-5 seconds which is the white switch on the game board itself on the left side I think. That’s when it hangs after that. Picture of machine.

I'm not a game king guy yet. Someone else will probably have to help with error

My best guess is a clear chip, if these use them. And maybe a key chip. I'm not sure,  I know the IGT Video Poker machines  do not use clear and set chips, just reset key and test switch.

This appears to be a PE+ they DO use both a SET and Clear Chip.
I will move this thread over to the IGT PE+ section.

Turn the machine off - then on again.
Use the white button to step through the screens - until it goes blank and brings you back to the main screen and close the door.
You should not need to use the jackpot reset key. As a BTW - You mentioned that you were jumping the wires ? do you not have the key - they are a common key and available on Ebay or from many of the dealers listed on the home page.

Let us know what happens....

If it still hangs then turn off the power pull the MPU board out (its on a tray) and reinsert it,. It might have just come loose.
Turn on the power, use the white button as above and see if the behavior has changed.

If its still acting up then you might need to clear the machine.....

The Clear Chip brings the machine back to factory settings, and the SET chip is needed to enable the bill validator. You will need to use the SET after a clear.
Again most of the dealers on the home page can fix you up with both of these chips.

The instructions on how to use them are pretty simple
Turn off the power, remove the MPU board (its on a tray so it simply slides out)
- Remove the Game Chip (it says game chip right on the board) - insert the Clear Chip
Put the MPU back in, turn on the power, and follow the onscreen instructions.
Turn the machine off, reverse the process putting the game chip back in.
This is also documented on the Home Page Under Ricks FAQs on the bottom right.

Again please post back to let us know what is going on.

Jay,
I'm thinking game king. I have not seen that error display dump on a PE +

The PE+ does need the set chip, but I have not run across a clear chip for them yet.  Maybe you can help set me straight on that?

I haven't worked on my game kings yet so no experience with those.

Here’s a picture of the inside of the machine and the game board. Doesn’t want to boot
Up at all today it just shows no signal input and now psu is whining. The cylinder for the jackpot is missing just has the two leads that would go to it.  Ok I reseated the game board and it boots up goes through
checking flash, candle lights and call attend, then I open the door and get ram error now, turn key for more info on screen

Yes game king.
You need to fix the power supply probably, replace the capacitors.  I can repair it if you want or need help.  PM me.

Try power down, power up with door open and just push the test button. Do not do the reset first.  See if that helps.

May need to clear and set it with the chips. If it uses them RB on here can help.

You can look the game king forum for posts and see if you can get some information in there.

Per Trisail.... That is NOT a PE+ could be a Game King but I am only speculating.
Based on the cabinet and placement of the bill validator I had it pegged as a early model PE+

It does appear newer but I am basing that on the Intel CPU - I am out of my element on this model.

The Clear Chip for a PE+ is actually the same clear that works in a S+  and I believe many of the SET chips work cross platform as well.
The S+ and PE+ are based on the same architecture.  It will agree that its rare that you would need a Clear with a PE+ but I have done it.

*** Moved Thread to Game King ....  I wonder if there is a prize for most moved thread  :banghead:

I would key chip it to clear it.  Probably needs a new battery on the mpu as well.  It is an 044 gameking, you need a key 28 to clear and key.

Blue ribbon for moving the thread around haha. Awesome thanks for the info I’ll order up a battery for the board, I’ll have to disassemble the psu to see what caps are needed I’ll post pictures later on when I take it apart, when you say you need a key 28 what does that mean? Totally new to the casino machines something like this work? https://www.ebay.com/itm/IGT-BALLY-RESET-LOCK-AND-KEY-/154391109940?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0

For the power supply caps check this information I posted -

http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=31351.msg166085#msg166085

Be sure to check the older Game King unit out,  it is different from the newer style power supply that you could have. They are not interchangeable - they need modified to work, be careful they look the same on the outside. Model number is your key.

Basically compare the model number on the one in your machine to the information in the thread. Pictures will help for sure. All the caps are listed.

The key switch looks good. I use these, no key to lose, must drill out hole in cabinet.-

https://www.ebay.com/itm/303894297410?hash=item46c182fb42:g:okAAAOSwQuZb6Que

Many colors and makes, search for a good price or PM me if you want one and the caps for your power supply. Glad to help.

Jay,

Thanks for the chip info. Constantly learning around here -

a Key 28 is a chip that replaces the GKB boot eprom that is used to clear the memory and enable access to the secured settings on the machine.  You will need to re-do the settings on the machine if you change a battery, change games, or a clear to get past certain errors like the one you have encountered.  You can place a WTB ad here and someone will be able to get you one, they are not expensive and you need to have it.
