Veeder-Root Meters click but won't count up
« on: December 02, 2018, 10:08:13 AM »
I'm a rookie to slots although I have a degree in electronics. I purchased a PE+ with daughter board. I had to replace the battery because of the error message on boot up. Replaced the top and belly glass, the previous owner got pissed and took it out on the machine. On further inspection found the Veeder-root meters would click but not count up. There is a white 8 pin male molex plug using only 4 pins this is connected to the matching female plug and one lead to the meter. There is a black connector connected to nothing. I believe this is the issue with not counting up. (see attached pic) I do not have an interconnect diagram showing plugs.

I also would like some Eproms with higher payouts for poker and deuces. (see attached Eprom pic)

I have found one that my Wife would like. It is one we play at a Casino all the time. I am hoping it will work with my XMP00017

Hi Al,

Welcome to the site.

 :NLG_WELCOME:

The Platinum Deuces game you mentioned is a very rare game -- in fact, nobody I know of has the software for it.  Are you sure that's the game you and your wife play at the casino?  It's a pretty rare game, and I'd be pleasantly surprised if that's the exact game you've been playing.  That Platinum Deuces game has a special feature where if you're dealt 3 deuces, the machine has a mid-game payout where it will stop and spit out 15 coins at you (assuming a 5-coin bet) before you get to continue the hand, and a hand of four deuces pays 4,000 coins -- the same as a natural Royal Flush.  If that is indeed the game you play, I'd love it if you could take and post some pictures of the machine and payout glass as we don't even have that in our documentation.  I have attached the only image we have of the Platinum Deuces glass -- is that the game you play?

All that said, the wingboard (daughterboard) you have does not support Platinum Deuces, or any other games with special features.  It's great that you have a wingboard -- those are hard to find.  For Deuces Wild games, there are many paytables that are supported by the wingboard.  Pretty much any of them in the following list should work with your wingboard: http://newlifegames.net/igtbible/IGT%20Poker/Deuces%20Wild%20Poker.htm

We actually play a nickel Bally machine (1996) It's called Digger Deuces it's a progressive. There are 20 machines in the bank. The max bet is 20 coins.

If 3 deuces are dealt it pays 3 x bet or 60 coins into the tray, if you draw the 4th deuce you win $200 if by chance you draw the deuce with an Ace payout is $500.

If you are dealt 4 deuces the attendant will come reset the machine and you hold the 4 deuces and get one more draw to try for an Ace If you are successful your payout is $700.

Now for Diggers If you are dealt 4 Deuces with an Ace payout is $2000.

Royal with no wild is the progressive payout.

You should of seen my wife's face when she hit Diggers. I wouldn't mind a Bally machine if I could get one. If any one knows the Bally model please post info.

The black connector is not used. It should be screwed to the mounting bracket as this s plus set. Doesn't make sense but that's it.

FYI: slotrush on eBay is not Midwest Slots.
Quality doesn't cost. It pays.

It doesn't make sense to me that only one wire is used to advance the count. I thought there might be a matching plug for the black connector that jumpers from the orange/green wire to the second wire coming from the V-R meter.
How does an electrical component work by only connecting one lead?  My only thought is that the meter uses an connection through the mounting screws to ground if so I guess my next move is to check the 24V supply or the actual grounding of the door to the 24V supply.

Thanks RB got my wires crossed it is Slot Rush not Midwest. I corrected my mistake. :duh:

Edit: well, it seems that Diggers Deuces is just a name variant of Barbaric Deuces -- see Reply #8 below.

Well holy cow, that's a new video poker game to us!

The good news is that it appears that Digger's Deuces is also an IGT Player's Edge Plus game. If you had the software, you could run it in the machine you have (although not in conjunction with your multi-game wingboard).

The bad news is that this is the first time we've ever even heard of this game. Not only do we not have any documentation on it, we don't have the software for it and chances aren't great for obtaining it.

Do you mind mentioning what casino that's at?

You multi poker supports the following:

The CG2298 graphics can support the following XnnnnnnP Data game types (as displayed):

Bonus Poker, Bonus Poker Dlx, Crazy Eights, Deluxe Deuces, Deuces Joker, Deuces Bonus, Deuces Wild
Double Bonus, Double Deuces, Dbl Dbl Bonus, Double Joker, Jacks or Better, Joker Poker, Loose Deuces
Nevada Bonus, Nevada Draw, Odds & Ends, Full House Bonus, Royal Deuces, Sevens or Better, Tens or Better
Triple Bonus, Two Pair, White Hot Aces

Super Aces shows as just Bonus Poker, Triple Bonus Poker Plus shows as just Triple Bonus

Graphics chips CG2426 set supersedes CG2298 and adds graphics support for the following XnnnnnnP Data game types (as displayed):
BlackJack Bonus, Tpl Dbl Bonus, Super Dbl Bonus

Using XMP00030 with CG2451 set supersedes CG2298 & CG2426 and adds graphics support for the following XnnnnnnP Data game types (as displayed):
  Dbl Dbl Bonus Plus.

All specialty games that require special graphics chips are not support, those would include (but not limited to):

Lucky Deal Poker, Shockwave Poker, Ace$ Bonus Poker, Jackpot Poker, any mid-hand pay games like
Dealt Deuces Bonus, Barbaric Deuces, Pay the Ace (No Face) or any other specialty poker games.

And of course the specialty games are rare and are usually not released into the "wild".  Notice even out the possible supported games there are no known DATA roms out in the wild.  I'd like to see: Crazy Eights, Deluxe Deuces, Deuces Joker, Deuces Bonus, Double Deuces, Double Joker, Nevada Draw, Odds & Ends, Royal Deuces and Sevens or Better.  However anyone who might have one of those DATA roms hasn't come forward or shared with any known source.

Everything that is out the wild can be played through the emulator MAME.

BTW: Can you please take a good hi-res picture of the entire game MPU.  I'd like to be able to see the whole board to see if there is anything new that can be documented.

Thanks,

BrianT

oh.... and by the way that game looks like Barbaric Deuces with the progressive mode.  Here's the paytable for X002284P:

                                   w/D 6-K 3-5         w/A w/oD
PayTable   3K  STR  FL  FH  4K  SF  RF  5K  5K  5A  4D  4D  RF  (Bonus)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
  P885A     1   1    2   3   4  12  25  20  40  80 200 400 250    800
  % Range: 93.5-95.5%  Optimum: 97.5%  Hit Frequency: 45.1%
     Programs Available: X002284P

Bonus "Dealt" payouts per Coin In are:
 Dealt 3 Deuces .....     3
 Dealt 4 Deuces .....   300
 Dealt 4 Deuces + Ace  1600

With a standard mono spaced text it's line up, but it seems to match to me.

Just a custom glass as far as I can tell.

Lastly, with known DATA roms out in the wild here are the best payouts / returns:

Code: [Select]
    Black Jack Bonus: X002272P 99.4%
         Bonus Poker: X000158P 99.2%
  Bonus Poker Deluxe: X000434P 98.5%
   Deuces Joker Wild: X000430P 97.2% (is there a X000127P @ 99.1%)
         Deuces Wild: X000057P 100.8%
   Deuces Wild Bonus: X002025P 99.5%
        Double Bonus: X000515P 100.2%
  Double Deuces Wild: X000452P 99.6%
 Double Double Bonus: X002066P 99.0%
    Full House Bonus: X002016P 99.4%
         Joker Poker: X000588P 100.2% (X002441P is best @ 100.6%)
   Loose Deuces Wild: X000508P 99.2%
        Nevada Bonus: X002037P 99.8%
 Standard Draw Poker: X000006P 100.1%
          Super Aces: X002374P 97.8% (X002372P is best @ 99.9%)
  Super Double Bonus: X002376P 99.7%
 Triple Double Bonus: X002306P 99.6%
        Triple Bonus: X002042P 99.6%
   Triple Bonus Plus: X002312P 98.7% (X002311P is best @ 99.8%)
      White Hot Aces: X002033P 99.6%

Again, mono spaced text will line up everything nicely

Anything in the parentheses are not known to out in the wild but are known to exist... except I haven't been able to verify X000127P but I think it might.  Notice there are several DATA roms with a 100% payout.... for perfect play ;-p

I didn't even think of that.  The 20-coin thing threw me off the scent.  Nice work.   :hail:

I received an email and hit reply so I sent a message, without reading your reply on this post. I do not have much experience with with forums so there is a little curve. I appreciate all the Info you and knagl posted.

It doesn't appear that I can plug and play the Barbaric Deuces into my Wing board. You do mention possibly playing Barbaric Deuces on emulator MAME. Do you have a link where I could get a little knowledge about this topic?

Could I set up a second MPU tray with B Deuces for a plug and play alternative?

We play this at the Eureka Casino in Mesquite nevada. I believe it is a Bally V5000 machine (see pic) The display reads "Bally Systems 1996" but I'm not sure of the game it uses, I'm still trying to bone up on Bally. Any help in this would be appreciated.

I sent my Email address in the message I replied to.

Do you mean the player tracking display says bally on it?  It is probably a bally mastercom player tracking system.  The machines appear to be igt pe plus.

Yes, you can set up a second MPU tray with Barbaric Deuces, and it's pretty easy to swap between trays -- only a couple of easy errors have to be cleared when swapping.  However, you would have to go through a setup step and chip swap each time to re-enable the bill validator.  That said, using a separate tray is absolutely the way to go as MPU boards can still be found at a reasonable price, and that's a much better alternative than having to swap out a lot of chips on your existing board to change games.

The machine you've posted pictures of from the Eureka Casino is absolutely an IGT Player's Edge Plus (PE+), the same machine you have.  As 474lsa said above this post, the player tracking is a Bally Mastercom unit, but the machine is an IGT PE+.

Yeah, no doubt the machine itself is an IGT. Gotta agree with the masses here and just say that the player tracking system was from Bally. Great to see and hear some casinos still have PE+'s up and running strong, out here they've all been long gone for coinless Game Kings. Very cool game set too, new one to me, can't say I've ever seen it!! As said a 2nd board and tray with those chips is an option, simple errors to clear as said and you'd most likely have to re-enable your bill validator each time if I'm not mistaken, again, not hard to do. If ya wanna tinker with it in MAME and the roms are dumped and supported shoot me a PM and I'd be glad to help if I can :)

The meters don't max out - they'd just roll over to zero if they got to that point.

For MAME stuff, please check out the MAME sub-forum for information, and if needed create a thread there since MAME usage is outside the scope of this PE/PE+ section.
