Another S6000 Battery question

Picked up another project In The Money machine got to replace the battery. My question on this battery test neg to neg and pos to pos on the volt meter I get -58.7 mV and when I go reverse neg to pos on the meter I get 58.7 mV I know the battery is dead.. I am getting the 8100 code and have a battery on order. Why is it reading this way? The battery is installed correctly I even check with the plus and minus on the battery as you can see on the bottom pic .. Why the reverse voltage?

Try your multimeter on any  known good battery not installed on a board.

Plugged in correctly and just used it to check lawnmower battery worked fine

From the photo, the battery looks like it's soldered in on the circuit board...best way to test is to remove one leg out of circuit
