had seen this many times in the past and it was various multiple causes.  Did you switch the i/o and try, Have seen backplanes do this also and also the reels themselves can cause this even though you said diff ones at times. Make sure no contact on reels impeding revoultion timing.  I would lean towards the backeplane/mother board or i/o.

I've gotten this from a crappy door optic connection. Reels spinning was enough to set it off

That's when I get it on my King Cash. I open the door, close the door, make sure the latch is seated right and it works. Gotta do it twice sometimes because I get in a hurry, but it always works. I use the inside power switch though so I have to open the door every time I turn it on. Could be I'm fooling myself and it's something else completely, maybe I oughta bypass the optics to see if the problem goes away :Scratch-Head: It does it 90% of the time I turn it on though

The I/O cards have nothing to do with reel tilts. unless another tilt relating to them happens first. Coin In Jam, Hopper, Meters, etc.

The Reels are connected to the Motherboard or back plane and the Back Lighting Controller
The reel optic logic is all on the MPU for 3, 4, 5. the +1 reel is SENET controlled.

You can disconnect the all the connections to the back light controller and the harness from the front of the the Cabinet I/O and the reels will still function you just wont have back lighting.

Door optics, poor connection between MPU and motherboard or even a timing issue on the MPU are more likely.

The reason I say a timing issue is I have noticed that the reel that tilts is one the mpu goes to stop it but does so a bit late, and momentum carries the reel past where it was supposed to stop, resulting in a reel tilt.  This is one you have to be watching the reels closely when it happens or you wont see it. MPU starts spinning the reels at reel tilt speed.

It could a SG chip issue if the chips are lower SG numbers
I get them occasionally with 597/598 game chips.

The reel baskets are stiff compared to the regular reels.
They also have small rubber blocks between the small pin and the reel
This rubber is to absorb the sudden start and stops of the reel motors but the rubber does rebound a bit.
Causing the reel to move up and down a bit as it stops.
I think it makes stepper reels look more mechanical.

You can try 597 or 598 chips
Get both
Triple Double Diamond and Triple Stars uses 598
Double Diamond with Bonus Free Spins AKA Double Diamond Pennies uses 597.

Steve, had the same problem with the same batch of machines I think you are playing with..It was the 363's put 598, 597's or something in the 500 series and you will cure it. I tried everything else and it did not work...363 and 5 reel enhanced boards do not work well in this case...fixed everyone I had this way.

Also had the same problem with enhanced boards running the 363. Swapped to 500 series haven't had a reel tilt since.

I found that the reel tilts were only a problem when turning the machine on. After you cleared the tilts the machine would run fine for days without ever tilting. turn it off and back on you get the tilts again. So since they never turn them off in a casino, they probably ran fine.

While your at it swap the power supply maybe its getting weak and cant drive all the steppers.

The Reels are connected to the Motherboard or back plane and the Back Lighting Controller
The reel optic logic is all on the MPU for 3, 4, 5. the +1 reel is SENET controlled.

i just wanted to clarify this a little. on the +1 reel the reel its self still appears to be controlled by the mpu. im working on a big times pay now and the +1 reel just plugs into reel 4 on a 5 reel harness. the light surround is SENET but i think that's it. a few people think the optics are controlled by the cabinet io on my 502 schematics that is not how it works.
