Bally 5000 plus
« on: February 28, 2016, 08:32:37 AM »
I am in need of some help with this one. I have a balky 5000 plus that has an 82 error code I can not get rid of. I have changed the battery and did a ram clear. Checked and made sure no broken pins on chips and that they are seated. The only things that happen are the coin solenoid energizes and the code 82 comes up. I have 5 volts coming out of the power supply also

Thanks,
 Chuck

Did you see this post about a similar problem? It is in a thread about Bally 82 error code.

Yes, the jumper had been added already. I removed it and tried again and soldered it back again. Still getting 82. I did get a bunch of garbage in the pay Windows, dashes, weird number/ letter combinations

That sounds like maybe the mpu board is not initializing properly. Does the mpu have any signs of battery leakage or other contaminants on it? All fuses good? Checked for loose connectors or ones with darkened/burned contacts? All other voltages from the power supply are ok? Do you have another mpu or power supply to try?

That's what it seems like, I checked the fuses in front all good. I checked the voltages on the power supply to  ground and they are good also. The board had a little oxidation but not bad around the battery terminal. I cleaned that. It shouldn't matter that the original battery was 110 mah and the one I put in is 85 mah

I agree, that new battery might not last quite as long as the older higher rated one but as long as it is the right voltage no problem. Was this machine working fine at one time, then had the 82 error?

The guy I got it from said it was and hit the jackpot and that's when it started with the error. The battery only had 1.8 volts

When you did the ram clear procedure did that seem to complete and go ok? What about trying another mpu or motherboard/backplane, do you have those available?

I don't have a Bally machine and am not familiar with their details, sorry. Hopefully one of the Bally experts will see this thread and have some ideas. In the meantime have you checked in the machine's manual to see if there is anything in it? I've attached a Bally manual, not sure how complete it is for troubleshooting.
