Winner Paid Meter not working
« on: April 14, 2018, 10:26:21 AM »
I have a 1090 machine working great except for the winner paid meter.   I have checked the zero switch bumper and is is good.
How do I check voltages to meter?
thanks

I’ve had many machines with those meters and a lot of them didn’t work? Davidlee light be able to help you more.
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

A couple of photos of a 1088 counter that might help you out.

A while back I got a 1090 machine without a win meter.
The empty space bugged me so I made a replacement counter.

Both machine count out accurately after they have been played for 30 minutes.
Before that they count a few extra times.

David Lee,
My meter has a jumper wire from terminal 2 to 4.  The diagram you had in an earlier post does not show it wire this way.  Can you tell me where the wires from 2 and 4 come from?  While hopper is paying out the meter shows 000 then goes back to . . .
thanks
Bob

Posting photos of wiring diagram. Check in that area for the correct wire, possibly taped up next to the lock mechanism slide bar.

This is another machine I jury rigged in a home made counter kit.
Had to use relays to change voltage from original wires to counter voltage.
Also needed a transformer plugged into service outlet.
Wouldn’t recommend it!

Does a wire go from winner paid light to meter?  Looking at you earlier pics it looks like there may be jumpers from light to meter.  I do not see any broken wires in the harness.

Not on the machine I have. You might be able to use the winner paid to reset the counter.
As long as the counter has an internal switch that cuts power once it has returned to zero.
This I don’t know.
The yellow goes directly to a yellow on a light socket.

The diagram shows step up and reset coils. Might want to locate them and check them over.
Not sure where they are located in the machine. Maybe labeled or follow the wire color.

Did you test the unit to see if it works?

David, I moved my wires to match your picture.  For the yellow wire a ran a jumper to the ground side of winner paid light socket.  Now the meter lights and counts off continiously,, never stops even after hoppers completes payout.

Photo attached shows yellow going to light socket. Orange and yellow power the unit.
The other wires tell it what to do when it receives signals from the machine.

It’s on the top, the diagram has it wrong according to the numbers on the back of the case.

Update I meant to say the wires on this machine are reversed.

I've got it wired exactly like your but it runs continuously, never stops, keeps counting up till it reaches 999 and then starts over.  I guess whatever is suppose to reset or stop it is not working.

Okay, I revised my last statement. I meant to say the wires are on wrong on my machine, but still works.
Not sure, but polarity may not matter in this case. As AC is most likely being converted to DC low voltage.

Now back to business. The counter up is most likely getting power none stop.
If it’s wired correctly then it could be the contacts are not opening causing the numbers to keep running.
Ideally there should be a pulse for every coin. Pull the counter up wire off. Set up a large enough payout to give you time to tap the wire to the meter lug to which it belongs just for testing  purposes. Should count up as many times as you touched the wire.
Going to need to trace the count up wire back to its to it’s source and check the contacts.

Another thing to try would be to manually step up the payout out counter to see it there is any change on the meter.

I disconnected the counter and reset wires from meter and left the power connected.  The meter runs continuously.  If I tap power to the reset terminal the meter will go back to 0 0 0 and then start recounting (count up wire is not connected).
