New to slots. Bally E2278 owner needs sound hlep

Just bought my first slot a Bally E2278,  any ideas on where to start with no sound?  I checked and have 4.8 volts going to the board in the top, which I assume is a sound board.  Also, checked all the plug in connections.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What are your machine symptoms? Can you play the game at all? Any numbers in the win meter, those will be machine codes? If the machines been sitting for a while it need to be oiled and greased, but one thing at a time. You will see a board behind the hopper. That is the machines power supply. It has a large capacitor, and a 20 pin plug, and 4 loops..Check for any burnt connections on the plug. I will post a picture of what voltages are on what loops.

Thanks for the reply.  The machines seems to work fine.  I have no codes except for the 50 and I think that is from the door being open.  The first coin drop below after I close the door and the rest hit the hopper.  It pays out fine.  I didn't realize there was supposed to be sound until I found the speaker in the top.  I did check and the #1 on the dip switch is on.  I also tried rotating the volume control on the sound board.  I did check and have voltage coming to the board also.

Here are a few personal notes I have on sound and dip switches.

On my Bally 5500 machine, I checked the speaker with a multi meter and got no reading. Replaced the speaker with one from Amazon and it worked instantly. Could have been other issues, but that was an easy fix for me.

I have 4 tested and working sound boards for the EM plus one kit that includes the transformer.PM me if you want to send your board for repair or simply want to purchase a known good one.

I checked the speaker with an ohm meter and had no resistance.  Is that a sign of the speaker being bad?  I might be interested in one of your boards if that turns out to be my problem.

The speaker should read about 8 Ohms.

Mine reads open.  I will get one ordered.  Thanks for the tip, it might have just saved me some money.  I would have never guessed a speaker would be bad. Thanks again.

sounds like your speakers bad. Do you have an old radio or speaker laying around you could hook up to test your sound.

I just ordered one from Ebay for $4.95. I will go from there.  I will dig around tomorrow and seed what I can find here to test it with. Thanks.

I replaced the speaker and it works fine now.  I never realized a speaker could go bad.  Thanks for the tip and all the replies.

On some speakers the wire from the speaker cone coil is small gauge, very fine size and sometimes breaks right where it connects to the speaker terminal.
