To be clear, on an S+ machine the motherboard (backplane) is the fixed board in the bottom (or back, for a slant top) of the machine which contains the EEPROM and some circuits. 

The MPU board is the removable board which mounts in the silver tray, and holds the GAME and REEL EPROMs, has the volume control (10mhz version), and tons of other resistors and capacitors and the like.  The MPU board plugs into the motherboard.

Could there be something that one of us might be able to help you fix yourself?  Not many components on those motherboards.

If they can be repaired I don't know ? I heard there are some chips in it that can be changed ? Can you buy those chips? I am up to try any thing but would need some info, I was hoping some one might have some for sale but to fix it would be better as I might learn something!! Thanks

Actually, there is only one chip on the motherboard.  It's the EEPROM that stores the game play data after every 100 spins.  Why do you believe that the motherboard is bad?
The problems with the motherboards are usually due to corrosion of the Molex pins, or bent pins.
If you can give us some more information on what the problem with each machine is and post some pictures, we may be able to help you out.

I changed the mother board with one from another machine and the game plays, What happens on one bad board is nothing, no display no anything, on the other bad mother board the game keeps restarting after  10 seconds or so and does not accept coins that seems like a connection?  Can you buy eproms  and change them?

Nether problem sounds like a bad EEPROM issue.  More likely burnt or bent pins.  Can you post some Pics of your bad motherboards? The more detail the better.

I have a couple of the motherboards (backplanes) that have burnt resistors, but other than that I beleive they are fine. I was hoping to use these in some machines I have with very bad corrosion on the motherboards. I'm wondering where I could get the resistors from? I had no luck finding any one with replacment motherboards.

If you know the values of the resistors you can get them from mouser.com.  If you do not know the values then upload a few detailed pics of the location of those burnt resistors and we can let you know the value that you need.
