TITO takes 6-10 minutes to work when plugging in after overnight
« on: September 24, 2019, 06:20:51 PM »
Hoping someone has any ideas.

Background:

- IGT S2000, Sizzling 7 Super Spin
- Bought machine 4.5 years ago for my father-in-law (had dementia).
- TITO in the machine (Looks like one from user Bhinkley on this forum..no lights on the board)
- Father in law kept pressing cash out, so we taped over the button to prevent/remind him to not cash out (so the printer wasn't used for the past few years)
- Machine sat for the last year, just moved to my house with the intention of selling
- When you plug it in, after sitting overnight, it takes 7-10 minutes for the TITO to work.  (pressing the service button to get credits.. then you walk away and 7-10 minutes later they start racking up on it).
- In addition, when printing tickets, it would do one, then get a open M error and printer error.  Long story short, I replaced the printer ribbon cable as it was pinched and exposing a small part of the wire.. and cleaned the roller in the printer and it works great now.  Only issue now is the delayed TITO.

- it is not an enhanced board
- checked all wiring, tested for continuity, looks good
- voltage to the TITO is 11.6V (good?) (power coming from the board/module mounted to the back.. not from a usb like I see the newer ones using nowadays)
- main battery is at 3.03V
- board still has varta/green battery and that's reading only .17V.. some slight signs of white on it, but not any major corrosion.  (plan to remove once the TITO is corrected).

- Not sure how long it needs to be off to act the same way.. if I turn off, wait a few minutes, turn back on (plug in), it works great.. but overnight, not so much.

- Thanks to another member here already offering help and numerous suggestions on things to check and fix the printer.

Let me know if you can offer any words of advice.

Thanks!

Johnny K

First and foremost, remove the VARTA now before it starts leaking, there's no point of having it there and voltage reading so low means it's about to leak.

As far as the TITO board is concerned, I would get another one to see if it's something with the board and go from there.  Unfortunately the bhinkley ones are no longer available for sale, so you will either just have to get one from Bettorslots, or find someone willing to sell you one of the bhinkley ones.

Thanks Rick.  I'll be sure to remove the Varta Battery.. and try to locate the same board I have.. or option B is the bettor slots TITO (hoping it would be a plug and play option, as then I get into additional setup issues..).

Thanks again for the input!

JK

It's just plug and play, the settings are the same.

Update.  Got a new board and now the delay to recognize it is about 3 minutes after the machine sits unplugged overnight.

I also removed the green varta battery yesterday and no change to the time it take the TITO to be recognized (not that I expected a change).

Any suggestions, please share.  But 3 minutes is acceptable to allow to put tickets in and to give free credits with the service button.

Thanks,

Johnny K

If you got a new TITO board and you still have the issue, then I would make sure the ribbon cable between the backplane and the power distribution module where the serial port is located has a good connection.  I would also try replacing that power distribution module if I couldn't live with the 3 minute delay.

Thanks Rick.

I believe you are suggesting that the delay is at the PDM?  If that's the case I should be able to put a meter on the connection to see if it's got voltage immediately at startup.. or is delayed for some reason..

Now I did have a bad cable for the ticket printer (looks like it got pinched and you could see some exposed wire)..  Replacing the cable fixed it and related open printer door errors.  Do you think the board on the printer could be causing communication delay?..  Just a thought.

Another option for me to investigate would be to reinstall the old board, plug a 12v AC adapter into the plug in the PDM and let it sit overnight and then power up.  If that plug is hot immediately and the TITO works normally, then the delay will be the PDM small plug..

Make sense?  (or am I way off base).

Thanks,

JK

The reason I suggest the PDM is because it also contains the serial port circuitry in it that interfaces with the tito board.  Your idea of just plugging in a 12 volt power adapter is also a good idea to discard crappy filter caps inside the PDM.  In IGT AVP machines, the serial ports are notorious for being flaky, though I've never run into that with 3902/044 platforms, anything is possible.  Just trying to eliminate every component that may cause the issue at this point.  I have spare parts for all my machines that are known to be working, so any time I get a funky issue like that, I start replaceing parts until I find the offender.

The ticket printer issue would not affect the machine accepting tickets nor the free credit service button.
