The reel mechanism needs to be cleaned and re-lubed. Every shaft and rotating arm should move freely.
Reel stop arms are also gummed up, they need to move back and forth freely as well.

For the coin / handle release, the coin relay at the bottom left of the reel mechanism needs attention.
This  is the first thing that switches to get the machine ready to spin.

Hello Dave and all here,

I got the lever/handle nice and freed up and all moving parts lubed (I think).   Now the problem is the number 3 reel free wheels after pulling the handle (nothing ever comes out to drop into the slot).   The number 1 and number 2 stays dormant...never moves, never even starts to spin (and I lube and made sure the bushings on those "finders" are free and loose).    Is there something electro mechanical that comes into play here that I'm missing.     I'd like to get this antique treasure working again cause it used to work just fine....but than sat quiet for years after my son stole all of my dimes after it.

                                                                                                                         Thanks all,

                                                                                                                           Bob Petersen

On machines that sit for a while the lubricant becomes sticky.

Check the reel disc slots for excessive greasy build up.
If these slots are sticky, the kickers and slot arms will be effected.

Check to see in the reel shaft is installed properly into the chassis. If its miss aligned this would be a problem.

With the reel mechanism on the bench and reels out, push the wiper arms back, they should spring back.
If they move slowly, clean the wiper boards, they also can build up with grim and slow things down.
(TEST NOTE) The arms will most likely exceed the guide slot and not return without manually realigning them.

Last week I had to clean a reel mechanism 3 times before it would kick and stop the reels properly.

If your handle is sticking down, first try pulling on handle while pushing firmly back on your pump arm, this will often release handle without having to take hopper out and reaching back.
