New motherboard…what now?
« on: August 14, 2023, 06:16:51 PM »
Hi all-
As the title suggests, I had to replace the motherboard on my double diamond deluxe after frying a couple resistors by putting led bulbs in. Now that the new board is in, I am able to put three quarters in at a time and play, but that is it. No bill acceptor, no credit display aside from error codes. I have turned the reset key and held the reset button, but this is as far as I have been able to get it. What am I missing?

Sounds as if the machine is working as it should, the error codes are only displayed when you have an error, when you close the door and the errors have been taken care of, then you shouldn't have any display until you get a winning combination. when a winning combo is hit, then if it is programmed correctly the win should go to the credit display.

if the bill unit is not enabled it won't work, does it cycle on power up?

since you replaced the motherboard ( the one on the bottom of the machine) you may have to use a set chip and enable it.

hope this helps.

Jim

Everything worked before the led tragedy. Nothing else has changed. No “insert coin” or “25c” lights either. These even worked before the new board was replaced.

I agree with Jim. You likely need to use a SET chip to re-activate the bill validator.

I have to assume that your machine is working other than the bill unit, the 25 cent denom lamp, insert coin lamp.

the 25 cent denom lamp should come on immediately as power is applied, check for 6.3 vac across the two pads, if voltage is there, probably bad bulb.

insert coin lamp is a function of the cpu and associated triac's .

go to the first post in the s plus section, then scroll down to the how to guide, see the s plus diagnostic cards there, use them to trouble shoot the entire machine, every switch, bulb, etc.  tells you what all the numbers should be in all the test menus, and what the settings are , invaluable tool when looking for problems.

Hope this helps

I will do that and report back. Those damn led bulbs really got me. I see you’re from the Cincinnati area…Just north of Columbus here.

Strange turn of events...I discovered while tinkering with the machine that the coin slot on the front of the machine is carrying ~60v AC. Felt a few shocks and put my meter on it. Tried searching this issue and came up blank. Without a full disassembly I did not notice anything obvious. Anything I'm missing here? Still working on understanding test mode. Will keep you all updated.

Sounds like an AC short....check belly glass fluorescent ballast, with the power off.

Had a machine do the same. Can feel electrical current when touching coin entry. Main power cable had no ground terminal at wall plug end. Replaced the cable and no more issues.

Good deal but what was the cause of the feeling the electric current your were noticing at the coin slot?

I have no idea! I wasn’t able to replicate it, but I have been keeping an eye on it.
