I recently found a IGT S2000 series slot machine for sale that was listed as ‘not working’. I bought it hoping I could fix it without dumping a lot of money in it (that can wait until it’s fixed).
I turned it on and got the “Display’s NETPLEX link is down”. I did some research on this forum, and it pointed to a power supply problem. I pulled out the power supply and found an obviously blown capacitor. I re-capped the entire power supply, reinstalled it, and powered it up again. This time I got a “Game EPROM CRC Mismatch -0xB000001” error. Again, info on this forum pointed to an MPU problem. So I pulled out the 502 revA MPU and found a dead coin cell, and a slightly leaky Varta battery. I removed both batteries, cleaned the acid off the board, and reinstalled the coin cell in a new holder. Popped the board back in the machine and got the same error. More research indicates I might have damaged traces on the MPU from acid damage. I pull out the MPU again and check the traces, find that there’s no continuity on two of them, so I solder on a couple of bodge wires. Installed the board back in the machine and powered it up. Now the center reel spins on startup, but I get a “Reel 1 Tilt” error. I check the reel connections and even swap reels, but only the center reel works.
Is there anything else to try before I admit defeat and buy a new MPU board? Where’s a good place to buy a board without spending the $200-$300 that they fetch on eBay?
Thanks. This forum has been invaluable so far.
