Bally Slot Machine Identity
« on: May 08, 2024, 08:32:16 AM »
Hello, i recently picked up a Bally Slot Machine and it is not working...Yet....The florescent lights come on but that's it.

The tag on the side says System 5000.

Would appreciate help to identify this machine so i know where to start, in order to get it working.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure that's what it's called, 5000 series not to be mistaken for 5000 plus. I'm sure someone will jump in with some advice. I'm pretty sure K-Lar has a testing station and can get the board up and running. I highly suspect it needs a clear chip if the backup battery is dead and gets replaced. Hopefully someone will jump in who knows these games.

Chris

You have an early version of the 5000 series. First 2 things to check are the power supply and the battery on the MPU board. The power supply is mounted on the back bottom right corner of the cabinet. It’s usually the low voltage section of the board that has failed, but since these power supplies are so problematic, you’re better off finding a replacement with the required outputs. Badbaud has contributed many posts to this topic. If the MPU has acid damage, it’s going to take some work to repair. Once those 2 items are addressed, you can begin troubleshooting, but unless you can work on the boards yourself, sending off to K-LAR is a really good option. Slotmachinerepair.com They will either repair it our let you know if it can’t. If the game chip is corrupt, then you have a boat anchor. Bally didn’t use the best materials when making these, so considering their age, it’s best to go through them replacing all pin headers, and replace all chip sockets with new double wipes. You’ll also need the keypad to setup the machine after it’s working. Good Luck!

Thanks slcjeeper,

Sorry new guy here, how would i test the power supply and where would i get pin headers and chip sockets and are the hard to replace?

So i would just package up my board and send it off and they will let me know if it is good or not? Do you how much this would cost?

Thanks again.

Cheers
