IGT PE+ "Low Battery" message, but battery voltage good
« on: April 10, 2024, 03:23:20 PM »
Hello, resurrecting this thread once more. I have a new to me PE+ machine had low battery when I received it. I changed the battery and added a holder, but still am getting the low battery message.

I'm measuring 3.7v at the battery and at the RAM. I've tried the reset procedure, but don't ever get a ding after holding the self test button. I've tested the  self test button and reset switch continuity and both function. I'm assuming the door optics work because if it is booted up with the door closed the "Door Open" alarm does not show up.

When booting up it says "Verifying Game Memory, Please Wait". One thing I have noticed is that the background color will sometime change. I have seen it blue, yellow and green.

Any ideas what should be done next to get past the "Low Battery" message?

Your battery voltage is not being seen by the system.
Simple as that.

I would follow the traces from the battery  and measure voltage elsewhere and use a gnd from the corner of the board. This will make sure it’s not your soldering. If this is good then it’s a different issue than the battery itself.

Look up the datasheet on that MAXIM chip. They can go bad and cause your problem.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Welcome to NLG.

 :NLG_WELCOME:

I have split your post and its replies into its own thread rather than having it as part of a six-year-old thread about someone else's machine.

As Jay said, the machine is not seeing your battery. I'm sure you were careful when you installed the battery holder, but is it possible that the traces got some extra solder on them or something causing a short? Typically replacing the battery is all that is required to make the "Low Battery" message go away. There's no other reset procedure that you need to do once you change out a battery to make the Low Battery message disappear. As you've discovered, you won't be able to use the machine until the Low Battery message is gone.

Do you have a known good PE+ board to try in the machine?
