Bally S6000, error 24 after battery change, clear
« on: July 07, 2015, 11:20:35 PM »
My Bally S6000 was working fine up until one day where I turned it on and got an 88FF in the display.  I finally got around to getting the battery changed, and I did a complete SafeRAM clear (clear chips in, held Pseudo Coin and Test buttons, clear successful, game chips back in, set the time/date), and I seemed to be back in business, but then right after the bill validator activated and the game was ready to accept a credit, the game went into a tilt mode with error code 24 on the display ("Coin Reverse - A coin was sensed traveling from bottom to top of the optic block.").

I removed the comparator and tried blowing into the coin optics area in case there was dust or debris in there, and even dropped a couple of coins through with the power off.  No difference when I turned it back on, though.  With the power off, I disconnected the molex that connects between the door harness and the coin-in handling.  With that disconnected, the game powers up, accepts bills, and plays fine.  I tried turning it off and plugging that molex back together, and when I powered on, right back to error 24.

Do I have bad coin-in optics?  I suppose it's possible, but it seems odd to me that it was working fine before the battery died.

I did not change any setup options (other than setting the time and date after the clear) -- is there a setting I need to change in the 11d menu to eliminate the reverse coin error that I'm getting, or did my coin-in optics board go bad?

Is it worth trying a clear again, or would that just be a waste of time?

Thanks in advance.

If you only set the date/time. All your other setting in the 11d menu were lost when you changed the battery.
If it ain't broke.....Stop trying to fix it.

I don't know what might have been set in the 11d menu. Is there any setting in that menu that would cause a 24 error if set incorrectly?

When you change the battery all the 11d setting revert to default. you need to check them. the settings are pages 13,14,& 15 of the bally 6000 book. It's probably posted here or just google "Bally 6000 settings", or "bally 6000 Module II"

I have the manual, thank you. Since I'm not terribly familiar with the machine, I'm still wondering if there any setting in that menu that would cause a 24 error if set incorrectly?

Well, an update to this.  I never entered the 11d menu after the clear.  Once I entered that menu and exited it, the 24 error went away.  The default settings were fine for my game, but perhaps I still had to enter the setting menu and then exit it to get the game to work properly.  I'm back in business.
