2608 gK board faulty
« on: October 07, 2015, 08:25:31 AM »
Hi,

My board is certainly dead, it accepts the key 40 chip, I mean I can answer YES YES YES and reboot the machine but when the base chip is back, the monitor shows a mixture of various scrambled colours.

As I don't find another 2608 board, my question is: could I use another board reference?

Any comment will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

If you can go through the key 40 procedure, then your board is probably good.  I would look to see if changing the software on the board will make a difference.  You could have a bad set of software.

Thanks for the comments.

I tried other softwares but still the same.

I dare not remove the softwares from the other two working GK s I have.

Where could I find another board? That's the question...

Why is finding another board difficult.  3902 or 044 boards are everywhere.  Post a picture of what you have.

Yes my question exactly.  The button battery is missing?  The green battery is also missing, but you don't really need that.  Also that looks like a standard 3902 board to me.  They should be everywhere and not all that expensive.  I think you also need to use a key 22 for that.  I'm pretty sure the Key 40 is only to be used for 044 boards with the legacy adapter.

For the 999,999,999th time   Key 40 is the current replacement for Key 22, but Key 22 is still fine to clear a 3902, the Key 40 will work as well but is the correct Key for the Legacy Adapter in 044 CPU, Bottom line the Key 40 is fine, but I doubt it was the one needed for those chips, not your issue regardless...

The 2068 the OP referred to is the board type number, not the part number, OP when a person refers to a 3902 they mean the last 4 digits of the part number (75703902) or whatever..  different areas of the world use different terms... bottom line, same cpu and unless a 3903 part number it does not need the second battery.

I would guess those reburnt Game Chips may be the issue, but you should take the sound board off and show the CGF chips too, or post numbers on pxl and cgf chips and see if all that stuff matches

I think you are in France correct.?

Yes, I am.

The machine was in East Europe.

The programs you can see on the pic are the ones I tried after I discovered that with the original ones the board did not work.  Tough luck, it didn't work with other programs either.

There are no batteries because I removed them.

The main battery was too old to be good so I took it off before powering the machine. As for the green battery, it had leaked so I removed it as well.

To me, this bloody green one must have ruined the board.

Key 40 worked great with the other 2 GK I have. They are the same as the one which does not work.

I do think buying another board is the solution.
