I have a 847 and changed the coin switch in the door.  my problem is I have a different modle of the E-51 than was in it. The terminals are up instead of down.and I cannot make out the N.O   N.C.  and COM  Thank you

New to this myself but.. Do you have a multi-meter?  It should be trivial to check with that on resistance. 

Most switches I've ever seen have the center pin as COM.

With the switch set to one of its two possible positions use a meter to find the 2 terminals that are connected to each other electrically, they will have continuity. One of these 2 terminals is the COMMON. Next change the switch to the other position and find which 2 terminals are connected to each other. The same terminal that was connected to something in both measurements is the COMMON.

As off-track said, the COMMON terminal is usually the one in the center of the group of 3 terminals but that's not always the case.

Looks like the NC and NO connections are marked on the switch housing. See enlargement in photo below.

Thanks guys..yes I have two of the wires soldered in the wrong places. I now have step one ..the coin accepted light ,and the handle release.Now, my next mission: it doesn't pay out, my odds relay is just buzzing and no advance as 2nd 3rd etc coins are dropped.

Check your switch wiring again, symptoms sound like it is still wrong....

You may have the common in the wrong spot

You need to have the higher 51 switch I am thinking. The standard lower voltage switch will the lhe contacts inside arc and sometimes stick, which could be where the stepper coil is locked on and buzzing. Just a guess. I have tapped the switch with the handle of a screwdriver and it can release. Just an idea to look at.
