Bally 809 Coin Hopper Beau Plug question
« on: November 25, 2021, 07:37:38 AM »
Hi everyone- I am new to this and just got a Bally 809 5 coin machine- I can get it to accept coins and the handle and reels work, but it does not pay out.
I cleaned out the hopper and i can’t figure out if the beau plug is broken- See attached pics. There seems to be a missing connector on the receiving side, but the male side looks OK. There aren’t any loose wires that I could find, so I’m not sure if this was designed to be like this. Any thoughts are appreciated-

Thanks!

Lawnfather,

Yes, you have a missing/damaged female pin.  You can remove the plug and see if a wire was on that position.

what's the full model number on the plate below the handle (top number is model)?

usually the pin is just pushed back in the socket and you shove it back out and bend the tab so it locks, but another possibility is someone had an issue and moved wires to unused pins on the plug and socket.

Thanks for the feedback- the model # is:809-9ZG. It has the mint casino glass. I investigated the plug and couldn’t  find any wires that didn’t seem to already have a home

Thanks again!

809-9ZG = sahara reno casino "triple bar fruit" version of an 809.

unique reel tapes ... reel 1 had more bell symbols and less 1/bar symbols than a typical 809 triple bar/fruit game   That's probably bad wrt the payback percentage, but the whole machine payback would need to be calculated to see.

anyway, looks like your 45 wire (green/white) was moved to an unused pin on the connector.  Could be the socket is damaged and won't hold a pin, could be the pin pushed out and they didn't know how to fix it.

as long as the 45 wire is moved to the corresponding pin on the plug, you're ok.

Holy Buckets!! I traced the green and white back to the Hopper and they line up- thanks for catching that!!!!
I do have another question that I couldn’t find any information on— There appears to be a switch on top of the payout drum that isn’t connected to anything-Not sure if this is how it was designed or if there is something wrong- I couldn’t find anything that was loose that would look like it belonged there-

Thanks again for your help!! These are really fun to try and figure out- the engineering on these is amazing….

can't tell from your picture if your payout counter is electrically or mechanically stepped, but in any case that microswitch is typically used for "coin out" meter which is not in all versions of the machine.  Some casinos had external meters they would wire the switch to.

as the coins ride around the pinwheel and eject out the front of the hopper, they go under a roller on a pivot arm.  If you have a mechcanically stepped unit, the other end of the arm is a linkage down to the back side of the payout counter unit.

in an electrically stepped unit, the pivot arm operates a couple switches and the payout counter steps via a solenoid (coil with plunger in it) that the switches power.

your hopper agitator is shot ... that's the black star-shaped thing in the hopper that mixes the coins as the hopper spins.  It doesn't matter much unless it's gooey and getting the coins gunked up, but if you feel like getting a new one, people sell them on ebay  for around $14... search for "bally hopper agitator"

I thought all 809's were electronically stepped due to the high payouts.

I think you're right.  I didn't look as I'm out of town and it's not too convenient to peek at a bunch of schematics.

dunno if it's because of the payout amount tho.  They also did multiplier games with an odds and odds follower unit that reset the payout counter during payout so it paid again.  Easy way to do payout multiplication :-)
