JCM Universal Gen2 printer - flat spots

I have a JCM Universal Gen2 printer that has a roller with a couple of flat spots in it. I have been searching for a solution or replacement rollers to no avail. Your post is the only one that I have been able to even find on the topic.

I have been trying to recondition and restore the roller using rubber restoration solution and rubbing the roller with a pencil eraser.

I have managed to lessen the flat spots slightly, but they still cause light bands on the printed tickets and as a result they usually cannot be read by my bill validator.

This has got to be a commom problem in printers that sit idle for long periods of time.

There has to be a relatively easy way to resolve it.

I wonder if you could remove the rubber part of the roller and slip a perfectly sized rubber hose over it?
I've noticed they come in a several different sizes at good hardware stores.
Once you have the right size, dis-assemble, apply a little bit of contact cement inside the hose and slip it back onto the metal rod?

That's a great suggestion.

I haven't disassembled the printer to see if the roller is removable. I am guessing that it probably is, but I haven't found any diagrams or instructions and am proceeding very cautiously.

The printer works fine other than the flat spots, so I don't want to fix what ain't broken.

I found one other posting where someone had a similar problem. They tried applying paint thinner to the flat spots and it apparently didn't work.

Yes....I seen that too!
I think they were trying to melt the roller...
